The companies are trying to push something. Doesn't mean it will take off. It is more of a premium product for people who want something crazy fancy and that they can charge more money on as 4k tvs become cheaper.

blurays took off just fine Solium., but yes, the grossly inferior DVD format still sells a lot of discs. I agree that 8k is a strictly a boutique rich guy product, there is not reason for it to exist at all. The human eye can barely resolve the data from 4k even at close distance like 4 feet away from the screen. The companies have to pretend that there is a need for something that humans cannot benefit from.

If you like an HD picture, Bluray is the way to go. And a Bluray play will play your old DVDs as well.
