I know MCU gets a lot of credit for "world building" but for me it got tiring, where each film became just the set up for the next film. This made for convoluted story lines and a plethora of characters seriously under represented that didn't need to be in each individual film. Was it Cap 2 or 3 which was really just another Avengers film?! Wonder Woman was fantastic! And Wonder Woman 2 will be another stand alone feature film. I didn't see Aquaman but it doesn't look like my cup of tea. So glad they are concentrating on making good stand alone quality films instead of trying to force fit another " universe" into existence. I Kninda agree with your frustration with the current MCU movies. Each one now just focuses on a lower tier character so they can be familiar when we see them in the next Avengers movie. Back in the day, Iron Man had two movies before The Avengers. If felt like they were establishing characters first and then dropping "the Avgengers are coming" Easter eggs to stoke interest. Captain America was the first overt "road to The Avengers film." "The First Avenger" was even the subtitle. At least The Winter Soldier movies the MCU forward in a major way and didn't exist simply to make way for the next team film (unlike Civil War which was a glorified Avengers film). Same with Thor: The Dark World (even though I didn't really like it much). Now, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and even more overtly, Captain Marvel, exist simply to get people on board for when they take over the Avengers as the contracts of the originals run out. They're fun films and I generally like them, but I'm an old "Stan and Jack and Steve" guy and the main line is about over. My emotional investment with the newer guys is limited. Although, I think Cumberbatch is pretty great as Strange, even if his personality is way off from the books as I remember them. I left out Spider-Man because I hate how they've made his films. I still wanted to see what Garfield was gonna do after Gwen's death in the underrated ASM2.

But what about The Vision, Scarlet Witch, etc. So underused. I would argue even Black Widow was underused though she is prominent in many of the films. The Spider-Man re-reboot (or is it re-re-reboot?) was average at best.

Black Widow, I understand, is getting her own film, which I welcome. The Vision and Wanda...agreed. I feel like they were introduced and then pushed aside. But not as badly as Hawkeye... Spider-Man Homecoming was very average.

You know, I feel like giving the Joker an origin really takes away his mystique. I loved Nolan's take: no name, no prints, all custom clothing, the guy was a blank slate. It made him more terrifying. I know The Killing Joke gave him one, but I never liked it. And yeah, I Know he was "The Red Hood" before he fell into the chemicals in the 40's. And yeah, Jack Nicholson.... But I stand by my preference.

I know I'm in the minority for loving the Garfield Spidey but I would have loved to see where they went with the character in the next movie. Well Garfield was great but... ASM2 was a disaster!

GAME OF THRONES---HBO released a photo of Daenerys Targaryen arriving at Winterfell and a poster of Season 8 shows frozen bodies in the shape of the Iron Throne. Rest assured, in whatever decade Martin decides to finish Winds of Winter, HBO will pounce on that mini-series, with facemapped actors and all. "You saw the ending, but was it... THE REAL ENDING?? Coming this Winter 2099 - Game of Thrones: The Winds of Winter: Dawn of a Song of Ice and Fire: Enough with the Colons Already ... and this time, TEH BUTTSECKS!! Rated G." Looks good other than the premise. Another nice guy abused and turned to evil. I really dislike this constant trend. There are bad people, self centered people, & spoiled people in the world. And most of them are not victims of society. But how did they get bad, self-centered, or spoiled? Our post-post-modern world wants to feel that we can understand and change people, that no one is too far gone, and villains having relatable origins gives us a catharsis (or at least a vicarious excuse to justify villainy) in that regard. It's the new Hollywood shorthand of conflict. Well Garfield was great but... ASM2 was a disaster! Well, it had to happen eventually: I agree with this. Garfield was a great Spidey, but the only villain in the movie was the Rhino. Otherwise, Peter had to put up with what I can only describe as "two ex-girlfirends". Electro and Goblin had the same arc, and both were ridiculous. And to slather that with coincidental appearances by Gwen, just to imbue the damsel-in-distress moments, really gave me resting-WTF-face. But I do like Zimmer's score a lot... hey, we're back to disagreeing! WOO HOO!!

But I stand by my preference. I agree less is more when it comes to the Joker. To be fair to the Killing Joke, it is unclear whether the origin shown in the flashbacks actually happened. The Joker himself in the story says he remembers things differently every time, and so the flashbacks we saw may not be from a reliable narrator. Maybe he completely blocked his origin from his memories, or maybe, like in Dark Knight, the origin story fits the narrative. His argument is that the difference between sanity and insanity is one really bad day, so the flashbacks we saw may or may not be what he created for himself while trying to force Commissioner Gordon to go insane.
