Obviously there are now hundreds upon hundreds of film scores that are being released as a download only option. Such is progress!!
But I was thinking what are the most 'popular/high profile' scores that have bypassed CD in recent years?
Off the top of my head..
BLACK PANTHER (Ludwig Goransson)
THE GRINCH (Danny Elfman)
BIG EYES (not a big score, but still a Burton/Elfman collaboration)
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 (Tyler Bates)
ANTMAN & THE WASP (Christophe Beck)
LEGO MOVIE 2 (Mark Mothersbaugh)

Please add any others.

Lego Movie 2 is available on CD, although it is one of Amazon's "manufacture on demand" CD-R releases.

Casino Royale (2006) is still an iTunes exclusive right?

Well, partially. Somes tracks are exclusive to iTunes but there's a shorter album more widely available.
In the same vein, the track "Captain America March" from Silvestri's score for the Marvel movie is an iTunes exclusive.

Popular/High Profile to me, would include films that are taking in upwards of 500 million to over a billion at the world box office and most of the ones I listed fall into that category.
And I mentioned CD in my opening post, as it has been the most common and popular format for film score releases, in general, for the past 30 years.

There's a decent number of download only bonus tracks, which isn't really what this thread is about, but certainly worth talking about. A very recent example being from HTTYD3.

There are actually some scores where the (normal first release) CD has more than the DL. Avengers IIRC is one of those.

Yes, of course, I didn't want to go off on a tangent. I tried to answer to Tom Maguire concerning David Arnold's Casino Royale.

I think any Hollywood film that gets a wide release would be considered a "major" film and score.

May not be MAJOR, but it really frustrates me that KICK-ASS is not on CD!

And therein lies the "issue" with ya'll nerds who post incessantly about bullshit Hollywood "movies"- they ain't films. Most nerd posters focus on scores for franchises, superheroes, cartoons and big budget bullshit. I would assume that is because those are the types of movies that are liked here?? Well, it is. Mindless drivel.

Thanks for the CD history lesson. I never knew that. Did you know vinyl has been around for 100 years?

Go get some 'love' and cool down, MATE!

Oh, and why is a 'Hollywood Blockbuster Movie' NOT a film?
Because YOU don't like them?
