I am glad the LLLR John Williams expansions continue. Please keep them coming! As for A.I., I love the film and the score; there aren't many films that can keep my interest and make me cry after repeated viewings. The music was perfect, both as a standalone listen and as a score that enhanced every scene it was in. I look forward to this expansion. While I've enjoyed Kubrick's films, A.I. with its stellar score was the film that always made me wonder how much better Kubrick's films could've been if he had a great working relationship with consistent composer(s) like Spielberg and Williams, et al.

One of my holy grails. Thank goodness didn't pay $$$ for Oscar promo.

Back in March of this year, I posted about this score on behalf of my daughter. She bought the available score and we have "shared" it for awhile. When I read this earlier today, my reaction was over the moon. When I shared the news with her, she just smiled and said "cool Mom". So, let me add "way cool" and hot damn!!

One of JW's masterpieces... Very glad this is coming soon from La-La.

impressive

now THIS is a score that deserves expansion (ALWAYS? really?... ok ok)

will we hear the two versions of the entering-in-the-city track? I mean, with and without that kubrickian waltz quote?

Yeah that passage with the Strauss Rosenkavalier waltz in what I'm most intrigued to hear, if in fact it's included. Evidently that quote (as marvelously interpreted by JW) was one of Kubrick's specific musical requests for the score. On the Oscar promo it's kind of lost in a super-long piece that sounded edited together to me.

You might be remembering wrong. The cue you heard is the cue the quote is in.

I thought it was a wonderful film when I saw it in advance of its release, but felt it just missed greatness. But each time I revisit it it grows and grows in my estimation. I predicted as with many films that there would be a turnaround on this one, and I believe that's happened pretty much. There will always be people who hate it based on their first viewing or because they think Stanley could have done it better.

I had a very similar reaction when I first saw it. I haven't re-watched it since its DVD release, but I've always suspected that this was one that improves with age. Time for another go 'round I think.

As for the music, I've always enjoyed this score. And listening to the album (via iPod at work) today, I can confirm that I still do.

The only way this could be made better (and believe me, I am NOT complaining about this wonderful looking release which I will absolutely devour when I get my hands on it) would be the inclusion of the Dreamworks logo music. It would be the perfect release to include it on, whether it was actually used in the movie or not (I can't recall, but I know some Dreamworks logo usage had just the animation, without the music).

Some DreamWorks movies with the logo music: American Beauty, Red Eye, MouseHunt (with a different ending!) and Amistad.

Some without: Saving Private Ryan, Galaxy Quest, Transformers... and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence.

Maybe it's being saved for something that isn't a co-production (the movie was made with Warner Bros.)?

I was actually hoping on Sunday night, while reading the John Williams LLL thread that it would be A.I. There are so many great John Williams scores I hope we eventually get from LLL, it really is hard to choose what to hope for next. Very glad to hear there'll be more, though.

I'm really excited to get this one, though I probably won't order it until sometime in June to combine it with a few other titles I'm eyeing.

On the subject of the film itself, I'm another that didn't really enjoy the movie the first time through, however it does seem to get better with age. I've seen it a couple times since seeing it in the theatre, and I've enjoyed it immensely. I find the ending especially interesting.

Spectacular release. I'm glad I never picked up a copy of the Oscar promo.

Surely one of the year's very best releases.

Wow, didn't know it had so much music, 2 for the score and one for additional music. This won't be cheap

Roger Ebert's re-evaluation was a work of genius, a brilliant read.

Can't wait for the LLL set.

I'll have to check out that re-evaluation. I've never gotten into A.I. and watched it a couple of times, struggling to make it through. There are good ideas but the overall execution felt lacking, perhaps it was just too ambitious a project for Spielberg to take on and pull off. It's also difficult for me to watch the movie and not wonder what Kubrick would have done with it. I personally find Spielberg's next movie, "Minority Report", despite some rehashed action pieces, a far superior sci-fi movie with better (futuristic) ideas and social commentary. But the scores for both movies are excellent.

I found Spielberg's "A.I." a brilliant, heart breaking, poetic masterpiece and, perhaps, the most profoundly beautiful film of the past several decades. The ending of this remarkable movie had me sobbing for hours after I'd seen it. The film, for me, remains among the most deeply haunting, unforgettable motion pictures that I've ever experienced.

One of my all time favorite scores by John Williams finally gets a good release. I could never really warm up to the commercially released album, with two fluffy pop versions of one of the main themes thrown in.

The movie also has some of Spielberg's finest moments ever (particularly in the scenes with Gigolo Joe), though I hated the abysmal, heavy handed and talky ending. I want to like the movie... but the ending ruins it every time.

For me, A.I. was the vision of Stanley Kubrick mixed with Spielberg's humanism.

In this case it was actually Kubrick's humanism mixed with Spielberg's misanthropy.

Although it would've been great to see the blue fairy sequence scored with "Masked Ball."

This one is very tempting. I need to watch the film again to decide.

There's just a ton of music in the film that is not on the OST.

In fact, the original OST is probably one of Williams' most poorly assembled OSTs ever. He just chose a lot of the wrong highlights. There's an entire theme in the score that doesn't appear on the OST once!

Can i throwaway my highly paid 2-cd consideration promo in the trashbin after this anouncement or are there some audio parts that is unique to this promo. I am happy to see this newly expanded released and will definately order this too.

Based on the track list I can see by squinting at their promo art and some deductive reasoning, I cannot think of a single thing that appears on the OST or 2CD Oscar Promo that is not on this new set.
