If only I could buy the original album presentation! That was one of my very first soundtrack purchases (on tape!); a very well edited album, a joy to listen. But this score on a complete, expanded release was always too much for me. I was thinking about buying this new edition just for the original album presentation but it would cost way too much if I add shipping.

Anyway, it's good it's available again, but I'm getting more and more like Thor, I guess smile

In "favourite soundtrack" lists, I consistently put this score in my top three; I have the original MCA LP and the 2014 2CD presentation, but ... :-/
Can I possibly justify the cost of this? (Direct from Intrada or other US vendor will incur the customs change; via Musicbox or other Euro vendor involves their additional markup ... that's gonna make ... what, at least £37?) ... urggh ... so tempting

I asked about the lenght of the end credits music on disc 2 on the Intrada message board:

What's the reason for "The Riddles Solved and End Credits" (disc 2, track 12) being only 2:57 long? Why wasn't the rest of the end credits music included there?

And Roger replied:

The technical term for that is a typo, caused by data from the cue assembly not being copied over correctly.

So the full end credits music is included.

I'm perfectly happy with the 2CDset Intrada released some time ago (which sounds terrific, by the way), but am perfectly happy for anyone who missed this one. Great score.

From reading the above, am I right to think the previous Intrada release was from the original masters, but mixed by Intrada, and today's release is not from the original masters, but is from subsequent mixes by Mr. Tomlinson?

So it seems. So the previous release was a newer mix from the session master, and this is an older mix made at the time of the recording.
There used to be the trend to release new mixes form the original session masters whenever possible, now there seem to be a few releases going back to the first generation original mixes made at the time of the recording. I think it was the same thing with LAWMAN?

Interesting:

"...a complicated process involving Paramount Pictures, Universal Music Group, Geffen Records and Intrada..."

Didn't realise that UMG and Geffen were different entities, thought Geffen (old MCA) was under the UMG umbrella.

It's Broughton. It's YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES. It has been ORDERED again. This is the score that sent me into film score mania!

If money wasn't tight and space wasn't at a premium I'd surely triple dip on this one. I had the LP first and definitely miss that presentation, but I just can't justify this right now.

If money wasn't tight and space wasn't at a premium...

You're sending CDs into space? Now THAT has got to be expensive shipping.

So Intrada won't ship the CDs now, but reprint the back cover, repack the CDs and ship them in around two weeks?

I should try to get into this score again. I love Broughton, I love Sherlock Holmes, I even remember liking the movie.

OTOH, for those that adore this score, I get it.

Hahaha Basil. Good one. I for one wouldn't spend a penny on later released high res versions of these lovely scores. I also admire your optimism in thinking that such a thing would be available within the next 2-3 years.

Also my above comment indicating that they both sound very similar says a lot about the quality of Intrada's mixing decisions that it came so close to the original mix.

I agree with otherTG, the two disc set is wonderful

Rather a shame we cannot get the film itself on bluray. I think it is pretty good

Nice to see everybody happy. smile

Now fans of all three mixes have an option...I guess technically there may even be four different mixes, due to the original Intrada 2 CD promo version which I know some folks prefer too.
