Did an edit using this releases and an unmentionable for a more complete experience. There's about 11-12 minutes worth of score missing off this release, but I will say some of it is just existing themes reprised or slight variations of those themes (the main hero theme when they are at Dana's apartment, some of the museum music and some more of the playful Venkman and Oscar music here and there). However, a few cues that are definitely highlights and disappointing to not hear on this expanded release are as follows:

Two cues of music heard in Peter's apartment with Dana & Oscar talking. This is mostly Dana & Oscar's themes, but it would have been nice to have it. I suppose the Dana and Oscar suites would have made it redundant though. But I would have preferred the film cues here instead of the suites that were recorded for this expansion.

The music heard when Peter and Dana are about to go on their dinner date and the boys invite them to go down into the sewers to investigate. I was looking forward to hearing this one, but it was left off. Just like the Dana & Oscar suites, the Venkman suite that was recorded contains some of this missing music/themes, but I definitely prefer the film cue over the newly recorded suite.

The cue when the boys escape the sewer and are covered in slime and then proceed to get into a fight before realizing the slime is evil. This is a definite highlight and it is a real shame it was not on the new release. There's a lot of Doug E Fresh's "Spirit" theme in this one, so it does make me wonder if it was left-off for licensing/royalty reasons. This is probably my favorite cue that is not on the new release.

The cue heard when the boys are committed in the asylum and when Vigo gives Janosz his commands. A very important cue and definitely another highlight that is missing from the new release. Would have liked to have heard this one.

The cue when Dana arrives at the museum and goes inside to see Janosz and find Oscar. Again, another great highlight of the score as it is very dark and foreboding, that is missing and really should have been included.

The cue when Vigo and Janosz divulge their plan to Dana and reveal why Oscar is so important to them. This cue is not as big of a loss to me, but I do think it is another missing track that should have been present.

In Liberty's Shadow is missing some music at the tail end of the cue when the guys are hooking up the wires and loading Lady Liberty full of positive slime. A very short cue/insert, but one that is a definite highlight.

Overall, I am happy we finally got this score! Am I disappointed it is not complete? Yes, without a doubt. Am I disappointed with the mix and sound quality? Yes, somewhat. BUT, considering this was considered a lost score for decades it is sort of a miracle we finally got it on CD officially. So it is a very bittersweet release for me. Who knows, maybe one day way down the line LLL or Intrada or someone else will be able to do another release of this. The lack of any liner notes inside is also really disappointing and just seems cheap and lazy to me.

I agree darthbrett - some of the cues you mentioned I was looking forward to hearing. I'll add in the missing music from the rooftop broom kidnap track... it's missing the tense percussion when Dana climbs onto the ledge to try and get Oscar back. I think there's also the start of the swirling strings (as I call it) missing when we first see ghost Janosz.

Another thing I was looking forward to/wondered was what Edelman did (if anything) for the montage scenes that we hear pop songs over in the movie. Bernstein had done his own disco/pop rendition of his GB theme in the first film, and I was curious to know what Edelman did as well. A great is example is the cue that plays over Dana being trapped in the museum and Oscar levitating to the painting.. the music for this is great, but in the film it fades out into Glenn Frey's "Flip City" as the ghosts (and the Titanic) once again cause havoc in NY. Makes me wonder how Edelman originally scored this whole scene.

Considering they followed the template of the first film to the letter, I've got to imagine they knew going in that these scenes would have songs rather than score.

Yes! I forgot that insert is also missing!! I think I noticed about 4 or 5 brief inserts missing from cues including the one you just mentioned.

Having 32-33 minutes out of about 44 total is still pretty good though! I'm not complaining since we had 0 before this release.

That is a good point and probably very likely. But it still makes you wonder if he did score a couple of the scenes, at least perhaps partially, where a song was dropped in.

I agree with this entire post. Even down to the favorite cue that was left off. But I do keep listening to this release and am also happy it's finally (mostly) available! And if someone releases a more complete version in the future, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

The bigger question is to a big film like this which was 1989, where is all the music? Why couldn't they only find a fraction of it and some was alternates. Things do get unearthed, so hopefully someday more will be found, but this is what we have and thank you to Randy for doing those 4 new tracks to try to get the playing time a bit longer. smile

From what I understand, more does exist - I just don't think Sony looked in the right spot/made contact with the right people.

I don't firsthand, I'm going off of what has been stated previously in this thread

2 more cues I forgot to mention that are missing:

When Ray is down in the sewer on the cable line and he knocks the power out when they get caught.

The short cue heard when the guys first discover the high energy readings below the streets that has some phrases of "Spirit" in it is also missing on this.

Good call outs! Another one is the music when Egon/Ray/Winston are walking down in the old transit station.. there's some spooky music with all of the disembodied heads surround the guys.

1. A Few Friends Save Manhattan - This sounds like an album arrangement. Themes/motifs definitely are heard in the film, but I don't think this track is anything from the film.

This is the score suite heard at the end of the end credits.

Listened on Spotify - sounds great, and 100% agree with the comments that it's a score album the the used to see. Designed around listening experience - akin to some of the fine albums that Chris Young has put out (Killing Season).

I am damn happy that this exists and will be ordering the CD very soon. For USA buyers as I'm still weary of SONY CD-Rs - can we confirm the USA/North American release is a pressed disc? I ordered the first score from a UK seller last time just to be safe.

I can confirm it is a pressed disc in the US.

But this pressed disc is Printed in Europe, right? And this is the only available version?

I'm really loving this score. Can't get "The Sensitive Side of Dana" track out of my head (one of the newly recorded tracks).

My copy is from Amazon USA and the back of the jewel case says discs made in Germany. Packaged in the USA.

The brassy anthem that breaks out between 1:36 and 1:48 of track 9’s “The Scoleri Brothers” is a nice approximation of Ray Parker Jr.’s smash-hit ditty from the first movie. Others have noted this is probably an alternate for the “Suck in the guts” scene where the Ghostbusters swagger into the Manhattan Museum of Art. The movie version of the anthem is heavily curtailed from what can be heard on this new album. Producers must have told Edelman to hit the brakes because of Huey Lewis’ lawsuit. That’s too bad.

Just got my copy and I’m really enjoying it.

So, there’s some unused / alternates on here? If anyone wants to suggest a scene I could give this the “Otisberg” treatment.

Finally got and played this these past few days.
Very nice score.
I remember liking it - and the film - all those years ago.
As time has passed, I've pretty much forgotten the music in the film, apart from that heroic fanfare used a few times.
There is a fun, retro vibe about this release, with 'out of order' tracks and keyboard arrangements of some themes (Track 6 is just lovely) which does give it a 'released at the time of the film' kind of feel.
I've always liked Randy Edelman, both his singing/song-writing era and his Godfather of Media Ventures film score sound, which shaped movie trailers for years and years.
It's good to finally have this music...AND ON CD TOO!!!
No complaints from me smile

Randy Edelman is scoring TOO HOT TO HANDLE: REMEMBERING GHOSTBUSTERS II, the second part of the feature-length making of docs by Bueno Productions.

https://deadline.com/2021/09/ghostbusters-making-of-documentary-resumes-production-1234844865/

I'm very excited about this doc. GBII has a much more interesting production history and the Buenos did a great job with CLEANIN' UP THE TOWN: REMEMBERING GHOSTBUSTERS, if only because they put me in it.

I have to say, I've already played this CD more times than the first score.
I don't mind the EB score to the first film, but it's not a favourite of mine and this one is just so much more light and peppy.
