FYI

Lifeforce is out today on blu ray. I know it's a favorite of some folks around here (or at least the score is).

I've still never seen it (or heard the score for that matter).

Opinions?

EDIT

Oh wait. Just saw Andy's Aisle Seat entry on this. Sorry I missed it earlier.

Arrow Video is also releasing it in the UK in september (steelbook & regular)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lifeforce-Blu-ray-Limited-Edition-Steelbook/dp/B00CA1P7K0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1371583682&sr=8-2&keywords=lifeforce+arrow

I'll await its release to see which transfer holds up the best. But excited to see these titles get blu-ray releases!

I loved LIFEFORCE because the theme of mixing science with folklore was very similiar to the Quartermass films from Hammer, especially FIVE MILLION YEARS TO EARTH and THE CREEPING UNKNOWN. The marketplace might be ready to revisit Nigel Kneale's iconic character, and with a rejuvinated Hammer Films, who knows?

Was this the only time a rare natural phenomenon (in this case, the return of Halley's Comet) was used to help promote a film? I remember the comet was mentioned in the TV ads and the film was released near the time of Halley's Comet.

Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive was released shortly after Halley's comet passed by and has cars, appliances, hardware coming to live as a result of a comet passing by. Doubtful it played that big a part in promoting the movie but I guess that makes it topical.

You might find this entry on wikipedia interesting:
