Well October is here, the month that ends with the second biggest holiday of sales at stores in America, Halloween, Horror Scifi films will pop up a bit more during this month for sure at the end of it, so i will like to salute some of the stars of that genre, which is one of the more stable genres in films. LON CHANEY SENIOR was one of the most popular silent stars of the silent era.A few of his most famous roles were Phantom of the opera, hunchback of Notre dame, the man who laugh etc etc, One could say he was the first real horror star. He died tragically of lung cancer at a young age, His son was also to become popular in the same genre, any comments on this great talent?
If one was to ask which Lon Chaney Senior film i would recommend for you to see, i would say any of them, Lon was a master of silent acting, sadly some of his films are lost like London after midnight, but many are available now on DVD, as well as shown on TCM often.

I saw a TV biography on him. He was an amazingly talented actor, that went further than any one else to create a character.
Yes a great talent, i wonder if he lived what he would have done with films like Dracula, the mummy, Frankenstein, werewolf etc, he might have gotten them all?
Right now, they just got still shots of Chaney's London after midnight, in which they have presented the film in that manner on TCM, this year, For Chaney Fans in the past 2 years a bunch of his films have been on DVD through Warner Brothers i reccommend anyone who would like to examine the art of silent film making and acting to give him and his films a try, you might be surprise in a nice way.
