Ask yourselves this question: Who writing film music today could even REMOTELY compose something this awesome.

If you don't answer "No one, that's who!" you're fooling yourselves.

Of course, to be fair, no one ever wrote quite like Tiomkin did.

It is now available for pre-order on the SAE site as well. Well ok my Tadlow order will include this, Lawrence, True Grit and Mad Max: Beyond Thuderdome. (I know the last is not a rerecord) as well as Villa Rides. That should more or less catch me up until Conan The Destroyer arrives.

Williams, Rosenthal, Shire, Shore, just off the top of my head. And I ain't fooling myself. smile But you are right no one does Boom de Boom like the Big T.

All fine releases by Tadlow there. Those mentioned have been regular on my player. Dont forget 'The Alamo', one of my favourite rerecordings. Looking forward to 'Roman Empire'.

This looks to be a fantastic recording, can't wait to listen to it, as Ron pointed out no current composer could even remotely come close to this Tiomkin masterwork.

Since the pipe organ figures in so prominently in the Overture, I wonder if the
new recording features that awesome instrument as a seperate track or if it was
actually on the same recording stage with the rest of the orchestra? Can't figure
that out from the link.

Of course, to be fair, no one ever wrote quite like Tiomkin did.

True enough, Tiomkin was/is in a class by himself.

As for who ever came close?, I'd nominate Daniele Amfitheatrof, whose scores also possess heady density.
