Hello MV,

I hope you don't mind if I bump up my question... smile

Hey MV,

any chance of more Battlestar Galactica releases? Maybe a box set with additional music from all four seasons?

MV,

I email you 7 years ago (really) and you were kind enough to reply that you might look into my request.

If I may ask again wink Will you consider releasing an expanded sdtk to Wing Commander - 1999 (D. Arnold/K. Kiner). The Sonic Images sdtk contained less than 40 minutes of score. The score heard in the film is slightly over 70 minutes I believe.

Sorry but this is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Thanks for answering all of our questions/wish lists MV.

smile

In our 15 years we have discovered a few truths to the soundtrack business as to what sells and what does not.

These sell:

Batman (for the most part)
Star Trek
He Man
Battlestar Galactica
John Williams
Jerry Goldsmith
John Barry
Danny Elfman
Hans Zimmer
Uncharted
Transformers
John Hughes
Hanna Barbara
X Files
Jason Vorhees

We cannot a test for Disney animated films, Star Wars, Bernard Herrmann, or Musicals but I bet those two pretty well too.

I hope one day some incarnarion of Ninja Turtles we'll be on our label.

I would've thought James Horner as well, but I guess not so much since he's not on the list.

Also been wondering if Batman: Year One was ever on LLL's radar, and if by chance it's actually 1335? Most DC Animated scores have been released on CD, and I find it out that this one never was released.

I'm also curious if the DC Showcase Catwoman would be on that disc too.

There are a handful of good DC animated scores that didn't see the light of day at time of release.

I don't think it was about Year One specifically (maybe about All Star Superman), but I believe MV's answer was something like "We'd love to release it if the composer was on board"

Three Chris Drake DC animated scores were planned but eventually cancelled due to the composer. He did not like the mixes he had but didn't supply new ones for us to release. Sadly almost every single one of these CDs we have released have failed in terms of sales. We were very honored to release these great scores but they never seemed to have found much of an audience. Justice League Dark will be the final CD we release from the DC Animated films. As for some of the classic animated series, at this point we will just focus on Batman the Animated Series shows and most likely ignore all other incarnations from here on out due to lack of sales. In other words do not expect more Justice League, Superman, or Teen Titans from us in the future.

That's a real bummer, MV, but thanks for putting your neck out with all these great releases.

I'm 3 DC animated movie sets and a Justice League series set behind, due to new daycare bills. Doubtful that this promissory note for one more eventual sale for each will move the needle, but hoo boy I'm still excited to pick those suckers up.

These sell:

Jason Vorhees

With LLL, BSX, and Varese pretty much closing the book on F13 1-8 and Freddy vs Jason, any chance that LLL will (or can?) release Jason Goes to Hell or Jason X?

Don't even know if the originals are missing much/anything, but even a straight rerelease would be amazing. Both are out of print and asking for mucho $.

No question, but just a thanks for all you have released so far across all sorts of categories. I'm especially delighted with the Superman and Justice League sets. In this age when so many impossible dreams have been realized, it may seem disappointing that more won't become available (I was really hankering for JLU), but there's plenty already here to keep me listening for years to come.

Probably just an accidental omission.

Well the good news is MV has a lot on his plate, and a lot he hopes to do. So we should have years and years of great releases ahead of us.

Apologies if these have already been asked:

--Any possibility of a SeaQuest box set containing music by various composers from all three seasons?

La La Land Records:

No to both

MV, have you heard the "SeaQuest" scores (recently)?

I just did mini commentaries on the scores in a thread over the passed two or three weeks, and there is some fantastic work there by Don Davis and John Debney. If you like "Star Trek: The Next Generation" scoring, this woudl be right up your alley.

Is there any interest from any label in releasing a more complete version of Hans Zimmer's score to Nine Months?

Is Sub-Zero going to happen (you said there would be no more DC animated film soundtrack releases, but still...)? BTAS isn't complete without it...

Does the above also go for Justice League Unlimited? (I know you said not to expect more Justice League but I'm hoping that you were referring solely to TAS...) And the forthcoming sequel to Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders? I feel that you were quite clear but I can't help clinging on to hope for these titles.

Delighted that you're still going to release The Adventures of Batman and Robin and The New Batman Adventures, from the sounds of things.

I wonder if an expanded Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker release will ever happen now (not to mention music from the show itself).

Gutted about Teen Titans, but there we are.

I love Drakes Green Lantern, and Wonder Women scores. Though I admit, he's dropped off my radar for some reason.

Justice League Dark will be the final CD we release from the DC Animated films.

The day when contemporary music dies for me. frown

So if I understand it, we will see New Batman & Robin Adventures in 2018, and the final one - The Adventures of Batman & Robin PROBABLY will be in 2020 (or I'm wrong and this "new volume each 2 years" tradition was just coincidence?)?
If so - I'm with you, of course (and I hope that you'll continue tradition in releasing complete scores for those last 2 titles).
But it's still sad. Really - I even can't describe my feelings. frown

ps I still hope that you'll change a little bit your decision about DC Animated films, at least for those films, which will contain word "Batman" in their title - it will be hard to live without proper Justice League soundtracks, but without Bats my life will become even more dull & grey (and it's not sunny & happy even now!!!)

My two questions for MV concern the two scores NEVADA SMITH (Newman) and STORY OF A WOMAN (Williams) about which there has been so much pure speculation from fans on this board during the last years, but never ever any significant reply from one of those soundtrack producers really in the know about the facts and who collaborates with the Paramount and Universal studios:

- Are there still any original music elements available of the Newman or the Williams score at Paramount respectively at Universal at all or can we give up hope anyway that we will ever get them on CD?

- IF the original recordings have been preserved, would LLL be interested in releasing them at all? Or are there still other factors (too costly, double licensing...) preventing such projects?

BSX did not, by any means, close the book on Friday 7 & 8. Their album is missing the last third of each score. For the record, I contacted LLL about this a month ago and they said they had no plans at this time.

MV, are there plans to issue the Star Trek TOS music from the 50th anniversary set as a separate release, for those who purchased the TOS box and would like the first generation material without having to buy the 50th?

Thanks. smile

Thanks for responding to all of the questions. Are any James Newton Howard scores from the M. Night Shyamalan films in the works?

Any chance that La La Land Records will reissue The Beatles' music library? I am aware that these albums are pop music and widely available in print, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask!

I'll ring Paul and see what he thinks

So how did this phone call go? big grin

Thanks for being a good sport about all this. I think I asked earlier but any news on the Police Academy front? The score for 2 is IMHO better than the original.

MV, thanks for answering all these questions I have some about previous releases. How long did these releases take from when you got the ok to work on them to the release date?

Die Hard
Die Hard 3
Scrooged
Untouchables
Hook
Black Rain
The Edge

Also were any of these in danger of not being released at all, maybe someone not wanting to sign off?

Thanks
