Audi has a patronage program in design, contemporary art, short film and screen music (probably a mix of true patronage, PR effort and tax deduction). The winner in each field is awarded money to produce its next project, which is then seen in museums/festivals/etc.. My understanding is that this wasn't particularly adapted for music, so the music winner is contracted to Audi to produce the music for their TV commercials for one year, and, somewhere along the line, it was thought that a film music festival was the next logical step of promotion, since none existed in France. So, when you consider this festival, you must be aware that it screams PR. It was not founded by fans exclusively, even if respected professionals are involved (Stéphane Lerouge). This brings positive things* (money, prestigious places, very professional organisation), and some drawbacks* (the need to appeal to mass audience - this year, with Archive -, not-so-pertinent TV stars as hosts, prize ceremony with city officials). * ah, and beautiful hostesses too. I let you judge if this is pleasant, irrelevant or sexist.

Well, we are having 3rd one in less than a month. But it's not built entirely around CPPO, although they are "partners" of the festival and James Fitzpatrick has been closely involved with the festival since its start. Unfortunately since CPPO is individually contracted orchestra, every single one of the musicians has to be paid individually, which gets very expensive. There are also massive payments involved for the concert hall, choir, renting the scores, conductors fees (fortunately both Nic Raine and James Shearman have been very kind in this regard), travel and hotel expenses for guest, etc, etc, etc... Everything is almost entirely covered by tickets sales, etc... so unless we (at least nearly) sell out we are screwed. That's why we should be on nr 4 right now, but there wasn't one last year because of major loss of nr. 2. But I am not the right person to discuss all this since I have been only helping out with the guests for this year and the next (if we are lucky enough to have one more next year). Film Music Prague aka Concert for Help is a charity event, so it is still supposed to earn at least some money that can be donated to selected cancer research facility. Either way... more info at http://www.filmmusicprague.com/index_en.html Fingers crossed this year will end well, so we can move on right into final preparations for nr 4, which already has two quite amazing guests in negotiations, so hopefully it won't have to be canceled in the end...
