This was well worth the wait. You will all be very happy when you get your sets! I first listened to this Christmas of 1992 (I got the cassette tape that year!). Just the original album alone sounds more "comfortable" to my ears, and more open and clear across the sound field. James Nelson is one of my favorite names in this industry, and whenever he works on these remasters I know it's gonna be a treat (Star Trek Generations anyone?).
The extra "album" tracks are fascinating to hear. They would do well to be programmed into the main album somewhere. They don't sound like anything else in the whole score, aside from the instrumentation of course, but they still fit in. They are beautiful and fascinating, and melodic. This is classy, and "classical" music that is right at home for us score fans.
I plan on listening to the rest of the set tonight. I have no doubt it will be amazing.

I got a chance to listen to more of Dracula! I had time to listen to the "composed score presentation", at least up until "The Letter II." I am a little ... disappointed? But I am also happy to have this.....
Some pros: The musical ideas now seem presented in more isolated fashion, so the themes have a chance to "shine" as individual pieces. Basically you hear a lot of what made it onto the original soundtrack, but the development and variations of those pieces is very different here! So it makes for an interesting listen. However, I have reservations about the "flow." Wojciech's compositions are extremely obsessive and repetitive to a fault. On the original soundtrack album, the producers were wise to trim down the bars of music before they started to become overbearing. While on here, there are phrases of music that just repeat over and over to the point where it became ... humorous? During "The Storm" I couldn't help but laugh over how much the cacophony just KEPT GOING!! I was like, "is this gonna ... stop??"
Now keep in mind that this is not a criticism of this set, La La Land, and the fine people who put this set together. It's just that, to me, the repetition here detracts from the music, and I realize that is how it was recorded, and bears no fault to this album as a product. But I'm gonna have to go with Thor on this one. The OST is the better way to listen to it.

It's just that, to me, the repetition here detracts from the music, and I realize that is how it was recorded, and bears no fault to this album as a product. But I'm gonna have to go with Thor on this one. The OST is the better way to listen to it.
I have not yet had a chance to listen to this (has not arrived here yet), but I think the original soundtrack presentation was... "ok" (it was not as bad as some presentations, but not as good as it could have been)... but the one track that was missing and lacking was "Race Against the Sunset", such a glaring omission, I'd buy the three CD set just for that one cue. (But I'm interested to see how the rest plays out.)

I agree, there is a lot of stuff to behold here. Starting with the OST, one could insert the extra cues, and swap out preferred performances, all into a playlist. It's fascinating getting all of the versions to enjoy.
