I picked up a three-disc set of classic Rostropovich albums on Saturday - this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rostropovich-Three-Classic-Albums-Mstislav/dp/B00GT5K7TE/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1429010650&sr=1-4&keywords=rostropovich

It was stickered at HMV in Leeds at £14.99 but overwritten at £1.00! I've been playing the third disc pretty much non-stop since then. That's the one with the Shostakovich 2nd cello coincerto (plus Tchaikovsky and Glazounov), written for Rostropovich and performed beautifully here. This concerto doesn't have the immediate impact of the first, but is more profound.

And at a quid, it would have been rude not to.

Duran Duran-Notorious

"Would someone please explain...
The reason for this strange behaviour
In exploitation's name...
We must be working for the skin trade."

Arcadia- So Red the Rose

Duran Duran's 1985 side project album (featuring Le Bon, Rhodes, and Roger Taylor) is so much more interesting than I remember, though I did thoroughly enjoy the "Election Day" single.

I already have the Dvorak/Tchaikovsky disc ... but, should you ever get bored with the other two discs ... you know a good home for them!

RCA Living Stereo Box 1 Disc 19
This has always been one of my favorite Symphony's. What a fine recording; hard to believe these recordings were made in the 1950s and 1960s

That's one of my favorite symphonies as well, Gary. I have a few different recordings, but I've yet to hear that one.

Now playing one of the most intoxicatingly beautiful marriages of music and vocals that I have ever heard in my life:

I could play that track on repeat over and over, but the rest of the CD is wonderful as well...

The Art of Magda Tagliaferro ~ Piano works by Albéniz, Chopin, Debussy, Hahn, Mompou, Schumann

An unsung giant of the 20th century. 1930s performances from the Franco-Brazilian pianist in excellent transfers. What a gem of a disc!
