I think a lot of this is fiction. It reminds me of the "report" on the EPISODE I scoring sessions back in the day, which claimed that Williams' theme for Darth Maul was heavily influenced by the Penguin theme from BATMAN RETURNS! Spoiler alert: complete bullshit!

Ha! I had forgotten that!
As with all these "Star Wars" rumors, some have proved accurate (a droid that looks like a soccer ball!), some have not (it's coming out this summer!). I'm skeptical, but we'll see.

While we're on the subject, here's an exclusive sneak peak at the voice they're using for BB-8!
I would have thought those involved with the recording had to sign agreements to not discuss the music at all. While I can't resist reading about possible hints about the score, if the tidbits are true, I'm surprised some involved are talking about the recording sessions at all. Recent photos of the recording sessions were removed. I wonder if those talking about the score risk losing their jobs???
I would think that session players with any sense would keep their mouths shut. It's a small community and if you're marked as someone who reveals sensitive information, your career is likely over, regardless of how good you are.
That is one of many reasons that I doubt the article above. The other "descriptions" that are in there are very general and, sorry, but fairly easy guesses. We know that there are good guys and bad guys in the movie, and therefore there will probably be appropriate music for those scenes... JUST LIKE THE ARTICLE SAYS!
We also know that there's a saloon with a lot of creatures in it at some point... could there be wacky source music that's heard in that bar? Probably. The article only describes it as "jazzy," which is probably a safe bet. Or maybe not. I guess we'll find out in December.
In any case, I'm callin' BS on it. It's vague and simply not believable.

I'm reminded of the enthusiastic early review of the AOTC CD which appeared at AICN years ago.
Hahaha, he must not have ever heard Hook. What a letdown that theme was, though it was hard to be inspired by those breathing pieces of wood.
I love that theme, I thought it was a wonderfully engaging piece of music, tragic yet passionate, with the instrumentation (harpsichord, oboe) evoking the royalty of those involved (a former Queen, a Jedi).
I'll admit I was mostly just poking fun at the notion of "crishendoing like a waltz," but while we're on the subject of "Across the Stars" I've always thought it was a clever, romanticized minor-key re-working of the Luke Skywalker theme. I've never found any evidence anywhere from Williams himself that this was intentional, though. Has he ever mentioned it in an interview?

I love that theme (hated the movie). But I always thought it was closest to the music that plays under Luke and Vaders final duel in Jedi.
Luke's theme, you say? Hmm. Interesting. I'm trying to hear it.
