Atomic Blonde 1.5/10 Painful attempt at a "cool" spy flick. The Ghosts of Mars structure doesn't work. Charlize Theron's attempt at an English accent makes her sound/seem brain damaged when it sctually reaches anywhere near England. Wall to wall pop songs and a generic score don't add much. The cinematography is rubbish, the usual blue filter casting a pall over much of it. The fight scenes are well done but hàve the very modern thing of gunmen running right up to people to be disarmed. No memorable visuals or set pieces. The script includes the idiotic line of àn English person saying "you do the math", which is just woeful drivel, and a sentence no English person ever said in life. It's just rubbish. but, hey, it's the 80s, so, cooool! Also, long one take shots aren't impressive when it's obviously just all done later in a computer, including removing a gun a baddie could easily just pick up, but suddenly disappears to prolong the fight scene.

Halloween 2 (1981) 5/10. Rather dull and Jamie Lee Curtis has next to nothing to do in it for an hour, then for half an hour just runs about. It gets marks for Dean Cundey's great cinematography, effective music, Donald Pleasance (even though he's been better), and some decent moments. Michael Myers really does pay for his decision not to break a gentle walking pace.

Murder on the Orient Express (2017) 6.5/10 Just a shade less good than A View to a Kill, I'm sure I'll enjoy this on a Sunday afternoon in the distant future, just before View To A Kill comes on.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: 9 out of 10. Three Billboards and Wind River have been my two favorite movies in 2017. It is interesting that even though they are very different movies, both deal with the mystery surrounding the death of teenage girls and the searing anguish of their parents who want justice. In both movies, the actors give superb performances. In Three Billboards, Francis McDormand is very good; she always is a fine actress. Woody Harrelson also does a good job. The big surprise is the amazing performance by Sam Rockwell. He plays one of the most unique characters I’ve ever seen in a movie, and he takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster. Hate him, hate him, hate him and then kind of like him, then kind of pity him, then hate him and then like him, and then pity him and then admire him, etc. He envelopes this character in a kind of child-like innocence. It isn’t a fast paced movie. It is a character study about the corrosive effects of anger and grief. It is also a very dark comedy. The audience laughed at times and teared up at times. Some will not like the ending. Packages are not always neatly tied up.

It is a surprisingly funny and also dark movie, gotta say, it is a bit overboard with the profanities, but a terrific film.

Willy Wonka. 71 A classic from songs to simple dialogue, the film pulls off having its main character half-way threw the movie, & it still holds up well, Gene Wilder is at times frightening & edgy, at others warm & social, great performance by wilder. The kids were all tremendous, believably wicked & got what came of them. The Chocolate factory looked magnificent, excellent props, Granpa Joe, Charlie, The Buckets, who were sweet, kind & earnest, finally got there horizon. The only taint was Umpa Lumpa songs, pretty awful. 7/10

Duel 71. Brilliant film, still holds its own 47 years later, long before Christine & the Hitcher, Dennis Weaver takes the wheel of a 1971 Plymouth Valiant on a deserted mountain road when he overtakes a tanker truck, which proves to be the biggest mistake. He's then tracked by Carey Loftin, the same driver of that tanker truck who starts taking him throughout the film what ensues is a brutal, psychological duel of cat-mouse, this film marks Spielberg's breakthrough into the movie industry & he proves his talent as a top director, Spielberg provides suspense, action & paranoia, Duel keeps you hooked from start to finish. 8.5/10.

Despicable Me 3 - 7.5/10. Good fun for kids. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 - 5.5/10 more of the same cartoonish stuff that has some nice moments and humour but feels very long ànd relentless. The House 0.5/10. Truly Awful "comedy" that just seems to be a string of badly ad-libbed scenes relying on swearing. No real plot, stakes, urgency or characters.Just really bad and sadly typical of Ferrell who is just the same in every film it seems. Abysmal. Though I did like Jason Mandzukis.
