Yes Desplat and Gabrail Yared are my favorites of the new generation of film composers, happy Birthday for all the good music you have given me and more to come.
To Morrifan- well as you will understand i said that , so that i would not make people think that i left out the guys who are still active but of a past generation, Morricone, Williams , Legrand on and on, Yared has delivered[i feel] in the past 15 years some of the best scores around along with Desplat.
Yes, a happy 51st birthday Alexandre, one of the great composers in film history. But just think what you still can do in years to come, Remember when MR Goldsmith was 51, that was 1971- think all he did after that year?
Listening to THE GHOST WRITER. Superb suspense score. "The Truth About Ruth" may well be one of my favorite pieces of film music in recent memory. And you have to love the way the rising horns Mickey-Mouse the Ghost piecing together the first words of each chapter. Well, I do, anyway.
I also listened to FIREWALL for the first time today. (Bought it long ago from Family Dollar.) Wow. I remembered little about the film (even though it fell into one of my guilty pleasure subgenres; the 'if you don't do this for us, we'll kill your family' thriller) and less about the score. I knew that some piece of techno-junk played over the opening credits. Desplat's cue is so much better, it's insulting. The rest of the CD is enjoyable, too. Pity that more disposable movies these days aren't scored in this manner.
Saw MOONRISE KINGDOM tonight, with a short but delightful Desplat score threading in nicely with the rest of Wes Anderson's music ideas. Happy birthday Maestro. You generate enough scores single-handedly to keep me interested in contemporary film music.
Happy Birthday! Desplat is no doubt, one of the best composers in recent years. It's surpising how his style is present with the five-seven scores he manage to make every year.
