Blake Neely has been hired to score the pilot of the upcoming CW drama The Flash. The show is based on the DC Comic and stars Grant Gustin as scientist Barry Allen who is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive, known as The Flash. Jesse L. Martin, Candice Patton, Tom Kavanagh, Danielle Panabaker, Rick Cosnett and Carlos Valdes are co-starring. Greg Berlanti is executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter (The X-Files, Smallville). The Flash character was introduced in the CW’s Arrow, which Neely has been scoring for the past two years. The CW is expected to announce next month whether The Flash will be picked up to series. Neely is also currently scoring the new ABC hit series Resurrection, as well as the CBS drama The Mentalist. The composer has also scored the documentary The Case Against 6, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in select theaters on June 6, 2014 before it premieres on June 23 on HBO. http://filmmusicreporter.com/2014/04/10/blake-neely-to-score-the-cws-the-flash/#more-24263

I thought Neely did well once again on episode 2. The exciting intro with a fire rescue, some entertaining music while Barry does such things as uses super-speedy hands to mix a sample, etc. Also, I think that the 'Allen Family/Rememberance' theme is coming together. I still think the rapidly-moving strings are fun to listen to and add some excitement to the show. I'll keep tuning in. The score is great and I'm greatly enjoying the show.. Also, I think in this week's show we got to see what will become known as "The Cosmic Treadmill" in later episodes. I also still think that Barry's father didn't always go by the name "Henry" (Or is it "Noah), I suspect he changed it after Barry was born so not to have confusion in the house between the two because, I suspect he was also known as "Barry Allen" when he also worked in the Police Lab in he early 90's , which would explain much about what happened on the night that Barry's mother died.... I maybe wrong, but something tells me that when they cast Amanda Pays as "Christina 'Tina' McGee", the same character she played in the 90's show is something worth keeping an eye on. Ford A. Thaxton

Wasn't impressed with the score from the pilot one bit. I don't see Neely topping or even standing toe to toe with Walker's scores from the short lived underrated 90s series, which is tough act to follow anyway musically. And no offense I'd rather LLL release another volume of the Walker Flash scores at least before they decide to release any of Neely's music. Well who wouldn't? But that doesn't mean Neely's music isn't good. Just means Shirley Walker (and the environment for TV scoring in the 90s) was a cut above! I'd be interested in both a release of Neely's stuff and another Volume (or two!) of Walker's Flash scores. Actually what I want more than The Flash Vol. 2 is Space: Above and Beyond Vol. 2! So many great scores for that series were left off that set, and some scores were only represented by a track or two (while we got the pilot score in complete form, which IMO was not at all her best work on the series). Hell, I'm grateful for the three discs we got but I'd wish a S:A&B would be 4 discs this time (like BTAS Vols. 2 & 3 or STAS). And though I've recently said on the board that I want more BTAS (or B&R/TNBA) I'll also add that I want a Volume 2 of Superman: The Animated Series. In the 90s Walker could really just do no wrong (neither could her ace team). Yavar

I don't watch this show, but last night Mark Hamill reprised his role from the 1990s series as The Trickster. According to Blake Neely and Hamill on Twitter, Neely used Shirley Walker's Trickster theme in his score! Arrow and The Flash interest me greatly, but I have so little time to make for newer series. I hear they're great fun though. We supplied WB with the masters! MV

I've just started watching this. I'm about halfway through season one. The music is sensational. Unlike Agents of SHIELD where I couldn't tell how good the music was until it was on CD, this show makes me appreciate the music every episode.
