I hope not. I'm planning to use those bicycle rental things, so that will help, but I do have a couple of side trips. Dang.

AND..... I might not be able to get from the airport to the city..... !!!!!! frown

Doom, doom, doom! big grin

Actually now I come to think of it, you're not landing at Heathrow, so Tube strikes don't come into the picture. There is no tube line to your airport. That's not a worry for you.

That's a relief.

Weird news, people. You can't buy traveler's checks (cheques) for England.

Now I gotta figure out which card is going to be the cheapest to use while there.

Sigh.

Get a currency card. I use Caxton. Before you go, you load your card with the currency, and you can use it abroad. No fees.

The one I can get here has the same fees as in the link, which are comparable to using my bank (debit) card.

The pre-paid (currency) does offer the additional security of preventing anyone from having access to my full bank account. So, similar to a traveler's check.

Thanks, LF.

Dudes, you were holding out on me. Totally!

http://pollockstoys.com/

You've got a toy museum. That's totally awesome!!!

Expect dolls.

Yes, but I"m sure there will be men there, too. big grin

In the USA, in the 1940's, "dolls" was another word for "women"

There are eight cards listed in the link - are any of the others of interest?

So it turns out I'm going to meet up personally with at least one Brit while I'm there.

So is England still suffering from the effects of WW II? Should I bring them supplies, like cigarettes, butter and sugar? Will that get me their endless gratitude? smile

Some weirdness: I plotted out the transit trip to an outer London museum on Google, and found out something.

Usually here in the USA, to get back home, I can just take the same busses (or trains, or whatever), in reverse. Not so on this one. Or is that just a weirdness of Google?

Well, you can do that here, too. But, the UK (and London in particular) has an extensive public transport network. There are so many alternative routes to a destination using public transport - the tube, buses and trains. In fact there are still new lines being built in London today. Google will probably plot out a route by searching all the public transport options available, and because there are so many of them, it will give you different routes.

If you book your London trip to coincide with the Williams concert on October 26th, you might run into a lot of fellow film music fans, including yours truly.

Well I HAVEN’T got tickets for the Williams concert but I’m tempted to be down there for the social aspects.

You have been warned...

I was expecting Bill Carson to tell me "no" to this.

To which I was going to reply: "Billy-Bob, you have once again put a wet blanket on my plans to fulfill my movie-related stereotypes of London. First I can't re-live THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY. Now I'm shut out of MRS. MINIVER. Next you're going to tell me that "Swinging London" was over 50 years ago. big grin"
