alright there D.S but I always find reasons for concern of the taste with people who always disagree with critics, it usually indicates not so much the critics being wrong as your tastes being, shall we say, "adjusted to a low bar"

Yes, so?
D.S.
yeah, so you get credit for the objectivity of knowing you have a "low bar"
If you're asking because you wonder who would be cast in a remake of "Deliverance," you should really be asking who will fill Ned Beatty's shoes. Or Fruit of the Looms.

I'm thinking who is going to be the smirking guy in SMOKY AND THE BANDIT, THE REBOOT or INTERSTELLAR CANNONBALL/KESSELL RUN.
I'm sure people wondered who would be the next Victor Mature, but what they would get was Burt. There's probably no way to predict it. I remember in 1980 when people claimed The Knack were the next Beatles. Preposterous!
Can't imagine the rural Florida "good ol' boy" bonhomie that Reynolds embodied being successfully translated into today's dystopic, Politically-Correct environment.

Yeah, I was gonna mention that he did have that "Southern Cool" sort of demeanor; whether it came from nature or nurture, I don't know. To me, it seemed he really only began to embrace that in the early 70s when it was becoming ok. From what I've read, he did seem to claim South New York as home, but he wasn't what folks down there would have called a Florida Cracker (not a putdown).
Dangit, Spin! Between Adam B's Monica joke and yours, that's twice I've thrown up in my coffee!
Funnily enough, I remember watching an interview with Dom Deluise way back when and he told of a shower scene for one of Burt's films in which Dom was a co-star. Dom said something to the effect that while they were doing the shower scene, he grabbed Burt's butt and that his cheeks were so small he could hold them both in one hand.
