Ive said this several times before, but the most shocking unexpected scene Ive seen "recently" would be Lex Luther's dog eating the other dog in Superman Returns. Truly one of the biggest WTF moments ever in a film.
RP: Yes, that was a huge shock, especially for those of us who saw "Carrie" in a big theatre when it was first released! There was pandemonium in the house!!! And while I can't think of any of them off the top of my head, that was used repeatedly by other filmmakers over the years since! Remember the end of Brian DePalma's "Obsession" the same year? (1976)
Oh, yes. And there was also that scene in "Wait Until Dark" when Alan Arkin, presumably stabbed to death, lunges out of darkness and grabs Audrey Hepburn's leg.
Nah, not all that young, King-ster - and what made that Payoff Scene so powerful was the quietly understated, definitely not hit-you-over-the-head Hollywood approach Mr. Jordan so masterfully orchestrated ...
TominAtl, I was just coming in here to post about The Red Wedding in The Rains of Castamere. I love the Game Of Thrones series, but I didn't see that shocking scene coming. Still stunned.
I never anticipated the last 5 minutes at the end of The Mist.
Captain Dallas being the second one killed in ALIEN. I thought he was the lead and would be the last man standing. (Yeah, Ripley.)
William Petersen getting his face blown off in To Live And Die In LA. Talk about not seeing it coming. I jumped several feet out of my chair on that one. Never forgot that scene.
