Ive said this several times before, but the most shocking unexpected scene Ive seen "recently" would be Lex Luther's dog eating the other dog in Superman Returns. Truly one of the biggest WTF moments ever in a film.

The name's Luthor. Lex Luthor, the most fiendish genius of a criminal mastermind ever to own the ground you're standin' on! wink

The scene at the end of "Carrie" when Amy Irving put flowers down at the empty lot where Carrie's house was....and the arm popped up and grabbed her!

RP: Yes, that was a huge shock, especially for those of us who saw "Carrie" in a big theatre when it was first released! There was pandemonium in the house!!! And while I can't think of any of them off the top of my head, that was used repeatedly by other filmmakers over the years since! Remember the end of Brian DePalma's "Obsession" the same year? (1976)

Oh, yes. And there was also that scene in "Wait Until Dark" when Alan Arkin, presumably stabbed to death, lunges out of darkness and grabs Audrey Hepburn's leg.

I nearly peed myself.

Obviously most people in this board are quite young.
To me the answer is
Neil Jordan's The Crying Game

The judge answering her phone in LAW ABIDING CITIZEN.

It is a rare thing for me to scream out 'Holy fuck!' while watching a movie in a theater, but that's what happened when I saw that.

The "Red Wedding" scene from this seasons Game of Thrones. I was traumatized for days.

There is a great scare in "Insidious" at the kitchen table that I was not anticipating. I can usually see them coming but not that one.

Nah, not all that young, King-ster - and what made that Payoff Scene so powerful was the
quietly understated, definitely not hit-you-over-the-head Hollywood approach Mr. Jordan so
masterfully orchestrated ...

Not having read the novels, THIS - Boromir (Sean Bean) 's unforgettable Last Stand in "Lord of the Rings"
absolutely wiped us out:

TominAtl, I was just coming in here to post about The Red Wedding in The Rains of Castamere. I love the Game Of Thrones series, but I didn't see that shocking scene coming. Still stunned.

I never anticipated the last 5 minutes at the end of The Mist.

Captain Dallas being the second one killed in ALIEN. I thought he was the lead and would be the last man standing. (Yeah, Ripley.)

Not a film scene, but last night's Person Of Interest... eek

William Petersen getting his face blown off in To Live And Die In LA. Talk about not seeing it coming. I jumped several feet out of my chair on that one. Never forgot that scene.

Obvious Spoiler territory, but when the Germans open up with the 20mm in Saving Private Ryan...

So there was shooting in a war film? Damn right it's spoiler territory! wink

Okay! You! Pipe down over there! (Way over there!)
