At least any future tennis discussion can take place in Ron's thread.

I like some of the poems posted in our FSM Poetry thread.

While I was gone, I could see posts but not respond. My favorite post in the last two weeks was this one from Jim.

"I can't take it no more! Jerry G has taken over me! His scores are everywhere in my collection!

I can't escape the breadth and scope of his musical genius!"

I laughed out loud. The whole satirical slant was just too funny.

However, Jim, I can't help you with this problem. I find that listening to TONS of Goldsmith's music is like eating lots of vegetables and fruits. One can never get enough. smile

I am loathe to admit having made a joke or to have to explain one, but in this case I don't mind.

My use of a double negative should have tipped off anyone reading that post. wink There was a spate of "Get Me into...!" topics, so I simply had to parody the trend.

I knew it was a parody of those "Get Me Into" ubiquitous topics. That is why I said "satirical slant," but I think "parody" is a much better description. It was just too funny. I admit that when I read the double negative, I just thought it was a typo.

So when can we expect your next parody topic? (Bill Carson would make a wonderful parody subject.smile)

Bill Carson supports a tragically inept "soccer" team, so I tend to handle Our Mr. Carson with kid gloves. wink

If one person gets the joke, that's enough for me, and considering how humor is (mostly) frowned upon at this forum, that's all I need.

Problem was, i made a semi- serious post on the same theme just before you so....
It didn't seem like parody!

THE SOLIUM MISINTERPRETATION

Don't feel bad, Solium. Irony, satire, or parodies are hard to spot when all we have is the written word. We miss the tone and the emphasis of live voices. Just look how the words "Shut Up" have changed due to voice usage. On one hand, those two words can be insulting because people are telling other people to stop talking or to stop expressing opinions. On the other hand, those two words can mean something like, "You must be kidding. You're telling me I won the lottery? Seriously? How wonderful."

That is why I think when posting the use of the icons is important. At times, so is the use of hyperbole. I know I've thought people were serious and angry when they were just teasing. Hard to tell with just the written word.

I thought you were being entirely (if ungrammatically) serious, hence my comprehensive response. I hope it might have helped at least someone who’s had so many fruits and vegetables that they’re crying out for some meat on the bones.

I'd like to thank all the participants for making the Alan Meyerson thread such a resoundng success. The FSM elitists largely stayed away, which gave it even more "rebel cred."

I did set myself up for that one, Bill.

Pretty funny, TG. Still we must have a few "fruits and vegetables" to balance our carnivorous
diets.

Already mentioned in this very topic, Bill!

Speaking of the OTT (second thread), there's a post from a status quo FSMer who expresses his(?) disdain for the very existence of the OTT:

Please get rid of this waste of space. I've always hated looking at this and would never read a bunch of crap by a bunch of bored nerds. This thread is offensive and an obstruction.

PLEASE : Put it in the non-film score discussion- if you must have it to get your ha-ha's out."

The (tongue-in-cheek) replies are even better. As obvious actor Jack Nicholson once said, "Go check it out!"
