Not this year, I'm afraid. We were assuming the pandemic wouldn't have gone on so long . Mr. Bricusse has stayed in France this whole time and I'm awaiting his return to L.A. so we can resume looking into it with CBS and Sony Music.

Always loved Sammy's take on the Best Song from the score!

Love how the Overture builds up to "I'll Begin Again" so wonderfully. The whole score is really great and fun. Would love a 2 CD - Set with Alternates and Extras and Everything! A remake of the movie would also be interesting and this time get a great actor who can actually sing "I'll Begin Again."!

Noooooooooo! Can't you do some of the search without Mr. Bricusse? Not trying to sound impatient.

When does the album go out of copyright in Europe? Or does it? There many of these sorts of CD reissues from Europe.

I wouldn't have had time this year regardless, but the original album never had the proper artist agreements finalized. At the time it was one company, but CBS Records is now part of Sony Music so it requires lawyers for two companies pulling files and dealing with Mr. Bricusse and his reps. For most of the past year, no one could even get physical access to the needed files. It simply would move more quickly with everyone in one country since LB, remains busy (at the age of 92) with new productions of his shows, etc.

I have always loved the Scrooge Overture too. It's expertly constructed, beautifully orchestrated (by Gordon Langford and/or David Lindup) and simply sparkles with Christmas cheer! The scoring fully deserved its Oscar nomination and maybe should have been a more deserving winner than Let It Be!

It's such a shame we still have to wait for the CD but I hope our patience will be rewarded in 2022.

Let's not push for this, lest it derail the release of a legitimate expanded version. However, the "gray marketers" do have a decent source for such a release, if they can find one in good condition. The album was released on commercial reel-to-reel tape.

I have a few cd's from this company. It's nice to have them but it bothers me a bit that they are possibly sourced from vinyl (and not the original master tapes).

What I don't like about their CD's is that they don't use the original cover art (perhaps because the cover art doesn't fall in the "gray" area?)

It's so sad that Bricusse is no longer with us to supervise a CD of this score, but I do hope the project goes ahead sooner rather than later.

The film was on BBC2 in HD yesterday and I enjoyed seeing it again for the umpteenth time. While it lacks a certain visual brio methinks it's still a very pleasant festive experience nonetheless. It was a lovely, crisp print, but the stereo separation seemed more diminshed with less sparkle than I remembered. I must check out my old DVD and see whether it's just my old ears, my TV or whether in fact it's down to the remastered print.

There is much to settle with regard to Leslie's affairs. He was all set to come to LA this winter and his passing was completely unexpected. The problem with Scrooge, in a nutshell, is that there were never any artist agreements made for the album. So we were needing to do that with LB's lawyer and those at CBS and Sony Music. And then along came Covid. At some point when things settle down, it's on the to-do list. But with LB's family, management and assistants having so much to do -- he had three homes -- and working with studios still a challenge, it will be a while.

Thanks Mike, for your updates on Scrooge which enable us to have some understanding of the difficulties with releasing this wonderful score. Many of us look forward to it happening one day.

A fascinating reminder that no matter how complicated we think these things might be, they can be exponentially more complicated in ways we never imagined.

Mike, thank you for keeping us informed. Really. Wish NBC or some other network and cable channel would show it regularly again like they used to There are so many excellent Christmas films that deserve more attention than just A Christmas Story, Elf, and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. C'mon networks. You have some great history, capitalize on it.

Mike, we've heard you're working on Star Trek: The Directors Edition for 4K release. Any chance you can give us some other hints on projects you're working on?

Star Trek is all-consuming right now and has thrown some things to the back burner a bit (or has at least resulted in some delegating) but there are projects I'm very much looking forward to getting into in the new year.

Hello Mike, does this mean we can expect a re-issue of the splendid LLL relaese but sounding even better!

Seconded. I wouldn't mind another dip from that well, especially with some minor audio tweaks. (just nitpicks, really)

I wouldn't expect audio tweaks on a future release unless you told someone what you think they should be. Even though that doesn't mean it's necessarily possible.

Well, I hate to nitpick at such a glorious and beloved work that was the result of labor I'll never truly understand, but if it's okay to give feedback with all respect, gratitude, and admiration for your work.

Those two snares at the beginning of the Main Title (Film Version) proper are just a wee bit ... tinny. I know, it's a tiny detail, but it's always sounded a little bolder in the film mix. It may be the reverb, I'm not sure, but a fan did a hybrid mix from the blu ray with the LLL release and it sounds more of what I was anticipating. Perhaps it's not correct, but the ear is accustomed to what it has heard for years.

Anyways, I hope one day we will get a presentation of Scrooge with the album and the film score, maybe even some music only songs without vocals. Seems like there would be enough material to make at least a wonderful 3 CD set. I know they collaborated on Mr. Chips, and of course with lyrics, but some of the writing and orchestration reminds me of John Williams, especially when "I'll Begin Again" gets going towards its conclusion.

It was probably because the songs were arranged by Herbert Spencer, who was to be Williams’ regular orchestrator until his death in 1992.
