I recently got a burn of the 1977 lp for Barry's THE DEEP and I had forgotten how much I liked Donna Summer's disco take, "DOWN, DEEP INSIDE". She sounds like she's about to explode!
Donna Summer, disco, 1977. This should be classic!
Not quite. If I'm not mistaken, John Barry produced the track himself and he doesn't really get the knack (sorry) of disco. Giorgio Moroder would have hit it out of the (MacArthur)park. I'll stop now.
It's a bloody great track! It's silly to compare it with Moroder which you only did because Donna Summer was mostly associated with him, JB gives his own unique take and it was a big hit here in the UK, reaching # 7 on the charts which by today's standards would make it # 1 for weeks on end.
You know, listening to some of these, I think a whole slew together would make a fun cd release.
I hereby command that soundtrack producers put all their efforts to making me, and practically nobody else, happy by doing all the work to make this happen.
I was thinking LIVING DAYLIGHTS, but perhaps not, because the raison d'etre of a disco version theme in this thread is to be in contrast to the NON-disco version, of which there is none in this film.
My favorite disco version of a non-disco *film* tune is "The Love Theme from 'The Eyes of Laura Mars' (Disco Version)"
Close second: "Love Theme from 'Coma' (Disco version)"
What is yours?
1) There must have been a non-disco version and a disco version for your tune to be listed. (This leaves out everything from SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER unfortunately.) 2) At least one of the 2 above versions must have been heard in the film.
Of course, "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" by Meco, released on Millennium NM 604. This went to No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart for the week ending October 1, 1977. I prefer this 45-rpm single edit to the bloated 15-minute LP version.
Has anyone mentioned the time the CE3K disco version was turned into an orchestral arrangement?
Wow. Very cool, but a little disappointing. In the original right after the "conversation" segment the strings just go crazy. That doesn't happen here.
