I just got an e-mail from a "friend", and this is what HE said about Damnation Alley:
"I listened to DA yesterday. Except for the quality of the sound, and maybe the last cut, DA was not that memorable."
WHAT A DICK! Honestly, I think he just said that to piss me off. He doesn't know quality when he hears it. This is a guy who thought the "music" from Gravity was good!
Surely you must know by now...you can pick your friends, you can pick you nose, but you cant pick your friend's nose.

The entire SCORE is "memorable"!
Doe's your friend like Goldsmith!
Maybe friend is disappointed as its no Poltergeist 2, 4 discs.
Gravity, not in the league of Damnation Alley, your friend on snowy, sorts.
It is a great release of prime Goldsmith, really essential stuff. Short - yes ( since we're kinda spoiled with 2 disc sets ) - but it packs a punch with the brief running time.
The electronics sound great - granted I've always been a huge fan of how JG used synths in his scores. It's been years since seeing the movie, but the music is all you need. Listening to the new synth overlays, you can hear sounds and approaches he'd use in later electronic accented scores. Some of the synths remind of of later scores like Runaway, the Rambo scores, Hollow Man, etc. Kudos to everyone involved in re-recording the synths parts and making this release happen
It's extremely rare that I buy a soundtrack from a film I have not seen. I bought this one on the enthusiasm and recommendations of those on this board. Intrada just shipped it out to me so I'm hoping it lives up to the hype. No one loves Goldsmith sci-fi/action scores more than me. DON'T DISAPPOINT ME, MESSALA!
I just tried to watch the first 10 minutes of this movie on YouTube. My god is it bad. Seriously how did Goldsmith sit in front of a screen and watch this expected to come up with a score for it. But a score he did and it’s fantastic.

I have the same thoughts every time I listen to Bill Conti's "Masters of the Universe".
This is definitely the release of the year for me. I have waited so long for this score and the new synth tracks fit in beautifully.
Interestingly, my other half came into the listening room and asked if I was playing ballet music. That was a surprise! But, upon further listening, I can see where this score would be very danceable.
Honestly I'm not a fan of his synth work, especially when it's intermixed with a traditional orchestra. Though I do like some of his scores when the synths are prominent, like Explores. I'll probably take a chance of this one anyway.

Its a decent score all-in-all, more orchestra than any-think else, of course there's electronics, synths, Goldsmith was a master threw the 70s, I can't recall any-think bad by 70s Jerry.
He probably is. He did like RAGGEDY MAN which I gave him a CD-R of when I was an extra on AMISTAD in 1997. Very nice man who told me his all-time favorite film score is SPARTACUS by Alex North. Nice conversations shared with him over the two weeks I was so lucky to work on AMISTAD.
The Zoob and The Steven (and his pickle) 20 years ago when we were both a tad younger. Great memories.
