The sound quality (itself) on this release definitely sounds better and is worth the upgrade for audiophiles. However, there is an issue that is hard to miss. Throughout the entire recording, there are pops and tics. Every three or four seconds. Now before anybody shoots vitriol my way about this, I did test the disc on more than one player and on my iTunes. The sound anomalies are still there. Is it just my copy? Are others experiencing this too? Are the pops inherent in the recording itself? I will e-mail the good folks at Intrada as well.

PS this post is not to stir the pot so please don't yell at me wink

Could be a defective disk. Maybe try listening to the fairly extensive samples on Intrada's site. If you don't hear the pops in the samples when you hear them on the disk, it could be a manufacturing flaw in the disk. I can't see intrada releasing this with such a glaring issue.

Chris.

No worries, but mine is fine. Sound is absolutely perfect. Yeah this my third time with this album, but I had no hesitation in splurging for this splendid masterwork. A brilliant score, and kudos to Intrada for making this available to those who missed it years ago.

Yours must be defective, no doubt Intrada will gladly replace yours.

As much as I love Goldsmith, didn't find anything in the samples that I wanted to hear again, which was disappointing.

Yeah, sounds like a defective disc or a problem while ripping into iTunes.
Intrada are really good about replacements.

Thanks guys. I thought it was my stereo CD player but it did it on my iTunes as well. ITR is sending a new one.

Hey there. I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster.

I am also experiencing the crackles and pops. Can confirm it is not an isolated issue.

Also, more hiss than in the previous release.

The phonics on this new edition of NIGHT CROSSING are fabulous! Haven't enjoyed hearing a remaster this much since THE WIND AND THE LION and La La Land's STAR TREK- THE MOTION PICTURE. Like hearing a whole new score with the added orchestral detail. Thanks to all at Intrada for such great attention to a Goldsmith classic!

I will probably buy it for the better sound (not that it's a score I've listened to in ages) but I will definitely be keeping my existing copy which is signed by a Mr J Goldsmith when I met him in London. Much treasured.
