Are all the specific "inspirations" for the various familiar-sounding Spence compositions acknowledged in the liner notes for the big set, or else catalogued anywhere by Spence fans? I once took the time to catalogue them but threw it out. You can do your own comparisons bruce

Just had to add this last entry before the thread goes away again. I almost did miss it, as this thread dropped faster than someone hit by Deacon Jones, or in this board's case, Captain Kirk. From the NFL Network's "The Missing Rings" documentary series. The story of the 1969 Minnesota Vikings narrated by Tom Selleck. Top notch production and film quality from almost 50 years ago has been remarkably restored in these programs. Selleck has a great narrator's voice, as all those years on Magnum, P.I. must have been good training. I remember seeing a couple of these "Missing Rings" episodes and wonder how many episodes in total there have been. Other shows should include '68 Colts, '76 Steelers, '83 Redskins, '98 Vikings, and '07 Patriots. Oh, and '84 Dolphins. At about 4:30 in, Joe Kapp states that during a game he yelled a few words to the legendary Los Angeles Rams Hall of Fame defensive end Deacon Jones. I'm sure Mr. Phelps will be amused. I wonder what Deacon barked back across the line of scrimmage to Kapp in response. RIP Deacon Jones. Can't see many of today's quarterbacks diving headfirst into anything--except maybe a strip club. Joe Kapp and The Deacon were a different breed of cat, that's for sure.

Jim, I believe there have been five episodes of “The Missing Rings”: 1981 Chargers 1969 Vikings 1990 Bills 1988 Bengals 1998 Vikings I agree with your selection of good potential episodes. Can't see many of today's quarterbacks diving headfirst into anything--except maybe a strip club. Joe Kapp and The Deacon were a different breed of cat, that's for sure. I've often wondered how Kapp would have done with a "Landry shotgun" (circa 1975). While Kapp possessed few if any of Roger Staubach's skills, I think his skills were reminiscent of the Bill Kilmer style of passing and play, especially the early 60's version of the shotgun offense (49ers). Landry's version might have helped Kapp if he could have had it available.

I`ve just discovered this 3 part German TV crime series based on a book by Francis Durbridge. In the 60s and 70s those Durbridge crime cliffhangers were extremely popular on German TV. This one is "Wie ein Blitz" from 1970. It was the first German Durbridge TV series in color. It had a German cast but was completely filmed in England. It stars Paul Hubschmid and Tony Curtis` ex wife Christine Kaufmann. This was one of the few German movies that Sam Spence scored in the 70s. There isn`t very much score in the film. The music has a very nice 60s easy listening touch and the theme is super catchy and used very prominentely in the score. Especially the 3 lengthy end credits are great. It would make a very nice soundtrack release but I can imagine that the tapes are lost. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0-ENI57zU8
