I could be wrong, but I believe the main difficulty with ALIEN3 is the masters being missing! At any rate, I chatted with Maestro Goldenthal about that score for a while once we were through talking PET SEMATARY, and he confirmed that he doesn't have anything in his possession. Perhaps we'll get lucky and they'll turn up in an unmarked or mislabeled box at some point.

Great score for the Halloween season. I never owned the Varese version so I'll be ordering this for sure.

So why doesn't the composer and a label get together and re-record the damn thing?

Instead of arguing when Mr. Goldenthal is dead and someone else carries the torch and does a re-recording, one can be done now and with the Maestro himself.

It's not that old. It will turn up some day...and when it does, it shall be MINE! Oh yes -- it shall be mine.

Is there any particular reason or story why the tapes to AlienĀ³ are missing? Is that also unheard of for a 90s score? Anyway, I'm glad there is still hope. I'm also pleased Goldenthal gave his blessing on the Pet Sematary release, I hope more of his scores will get revisited this way. smile

Hey Wedge,

does the same hold for "Batman & Robin" or is that a different situation and Mr. Goldenthal just doesn't want it released (for whatever reason)?

No, he does want it released. He even prepared a 50-minute program back in the day. It never came into fruition because the film fared so poorly. I have no idea how the rights situation is now. Messy, I think. I asked Elliot about this in my two interviews with him in 2010 and 2012, but no details about its current status was revealed.

Sorry, Bishop -- I have no insight into what hurdles might need to be cleared for BATMAN & ROBIN.

Too bad, Wegde, but I guess you can't have all the inside-information, can you? wink
Hopefully a proper score release will see the light of day rather sooner than latter.

Thor, thank you very much for the additional information - much appreciated! smile

Isn't the main problem with Batman and Robin Warner Bros.?
If I remember correctly they wasn't very happy with his 300 lawsuit. But on the other hand we've got Batman Forever in the meantime, so that must be only a rumor. Hopefully it may be one of those Black Friday titles ;-)

How I long for that day. A complete Alien 3 is one of my most wanted La-La Land titles (along with Lair & Sunshine wink)

Anyway... Pet Semetary.... don't think I will have enough money for this one. I've just brought a Russian passport and driving license.

A very nice surprise.

I love the "Moving Day Waltz" and all its variations that runs throughout the score.

Ah, you're killing me, Gerhard...or, my wallet, more accurately. This is the last remaining Goldenthal score, barring Batman & Robin (which may never see the light of day), on my list of scores to obtain. I'm glad I never took the plunge on the OOP album, and believe me, I got close a few times.

Bit surprised not to see any reaction from people who got this expansion?

P.S. I'm digging it, took me a while to get used to the C&C but the score remains as uneasy and unsettling as ever.

Intend to get this one. Hope it's still around when the new titles go up next week.

Got to say I've found a whole new life in this score with the recent release. I got the original album on first release and didn't really warm to it that much. A few good moments but somehow not a very satisfying listen as a whole. The new release is just wonderful and plays for me almost like a new score. I never think that expansions automatically make new releases better but this one really benefits from it. The atmosphere grows much better now and really sucks you in. A real quality horror score.
