This is one of my absolute favorite Goldsmith scores. In fact, this would be my most wanted score expansion - period - if I thought there was any hope that the original session tapes existed in decent enough shape. I just don't want to get my hopes up for music I love this much. The Main Title theme is never far from my thoughts. This has truly haunted me since I was a child. This would be an excellent choice for the new Tadlow series!!!!

I think you can hold a little hope, considering we got White Witch Doctor, The Egyptian, and The Rains of Ranchipur! Yavar

I agree with others that this is an amazing Goldsmith score with a disappointing presentation. Having three cues separated out in the Goldsmith at Fox box was a tease considering if one wants to listen to any other music from the score one has to sit through that long suite, source music and all. If one of the scores on the original release had to be a suite I would've preferred it to be Mephisto Waltz as there aren't any particular cues I like to pick out from it... With all the other old Fox scores that've been getting better sources discovered lately (Friedhofer's Rains of Ranchipur, Newman and Herrmann's The Egyptian, plus all of that Herrmann stuff Varese put out in their Herrmann at Fox box...) I wonder if there is a chance for this masterpiece to get another release. If a better release of the original tracks isn't possible I guess I should move it up my wish list for complete Goldsmith re-recordings! Yavar A score I would love to get my hands on, but Varese has this one forever. It's up to them.

I've never heard "The Other" actually sung, but I do have the sheet music. Who took a gamble on recording this unusual song? For those of you who are interested in Tom Tryon's lyrics, here they are: Yes, I know your eyes, they're the same eyes, And for me they hold no surprise. Yet, how strange, from time to time they change Till they become two other eyes. And just now and then when you're speaking There's a diff'rent voice unfamiliar And I think when it reaches my ear, It's a stranger's voice that I hear. And I know your smile seldom varies It's the same sweet smile I recall. till, at times, for just a little while, It's really not your smile at all. Now and then, your face seems another It's the other face I discover But your face is the face I adore, There's no other face I love more. It's the dearer face, The nearer face; It's your face

So near the top of SAE's front page (in the news section), they have a schedule of Twilight Time Blu-rays coming out. On that schedule is The Other, with a date of October 8th. So that means at the very least that we'll be able to get the complete surviving score as an isolated track (perhaps cues that don't survive on a music-only track can be included from a music-and-effects track as on Enemy Mine)! Best case scenario of course is that the next Varese Club batch comes out with a Deluxe Edition of the complete score. (Or maybe it wouldn't be branded a "Deluxe Edition" because it was only a suite tacked on at the end of another score before, like Escape from the Planet of the Apes which wasn't labeled "Deluxe Edition" when finally put out complete.) Of course we still haven't gotten Deluxe Editions of the original tracks for the Flint scores, both of which Varese also holds in perpetuity. Hope they aren't forgotten about when the Club gets back on its release track... Yavar

I also listened to the isolated track of Jerry Goldsmith's music score. It was a shock for me to hear all the Goldsmith music that was not used in the film. If all this great music was reinstated in the film, it would be a better film then as released. The missing music is absolutely gorgeous, a real shame! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of our film music labels needs to release the complete score with all the missing music. General Discussion: The Other bluray Oct 8 And any one of them would in a heartbeat but as stated in numerous posts here in this very thread. this score is owned in perpetuity by Varese - therefore none of your film music labels can touch it.
