Er, DAFT PUNK? It's not 1999 anymore, yunno. roll eyes

Being a synth pioneer is pretty significant, and not something your recent body of work can cancel out.

I can't wait for this. To be honest while I was excited for the movie, I hadn't even gotten to that point where the score was even on my radar. The latest Disney live action affairs are hit and miss for me when it comes to who they choose to score, so I just wait for an announcement and usually reply with "oh that makes sense." But this announcement comes from the heavens! Daft Punk are exquisite, and if they go a slightly more melodic route than some of their recent work, that will just be wonderful. They can really hammer out a melody and do great thing with it, can't wait!

I'd never heard of them before reading this thread (and I doubt I'll ever hear of them again).

After reading all the replies here, plus checking out their Wikipedia entry, I'm not intrigued as to what they might come up with.

Are you serious?
I couldn't think of anyone better suited than Daft Punk.

I can: Wendy Carlos.

I would have more confidence in Daft Punk scoring the new Terminator film than in Elfman, as long as a moody and sinister Producer kept them industrially Evil.

Anyway, they have talent.

What I might *prefer* would be a wise inter-marriage of them and Wendy Carlos. Much like the industrial musicians who collaborated under/with Don Davis for the Matrix series.

Regardless, if this is true, it could be interesting. The 5:50 mark in their Robot Rock video is quite good.

I wouldn`t give contracts based on other work though - I`d rather ask an artist to come up with a sample piece for my project and deduce from that whether they are going to supply me and my project (!) with what is needed. After all, what if you get Kilar in an odd off-month?...

(Assuming such an unlikely thing were possible!...)

Lets hear something they compose specifically for TRON.

.

The TRON 2.0 game had great atmosphere, but later challenges in the game were too difficult. I gave up just after the fun turned into work (viral bosses with constantly respawning secondary minions)... fairly far into the game. Turning TRON into a good game is a difficult thing, and I give the developers credit for having done what they did. Light cycle sequences were always the toughest aspect of TRON projects to make both playable and fair.

Yeah. I should say after Wendy Carlos, in my opinion, Daft Punk would be a great choice. It would be cool to see her come back.

I like Daft PunkĀ“s track Digital Love - instrumental. If the score will be in this style, it could be finesmile

Bump.

The official site has six clips of the score available. I like (then again, I'm a fan of theirs anyway).

I like what I heard, even though the sound quality was low and there were annoying and LOUD sound effects swishing by every two seconds.

Hmm - the score clips on the site...it does sound like umm...Daft Punk has done their homework, as it sounds like a Vangelis/TD/John Powell mix... really like Bourne meets Tangerine Dream. I could take a CD of this

Not awful as I feared...at least it isn't that Juno Reactor thing...on another thread was a Youtube link to some Juno thing and Jesus H it was the absolute worst noise I'd ever heard in my life. This however...am interested.

Couldn't disagree with you more re: Juno Reactor. They are absolutely FANTASTIC, one of my favourite electronica groups. They were also PERFECTLY used in the MATRIX films. There are similarities between laidback JR and some of those Daft Punk cues, but of course, it's quite different expressions, and I'm sure Daft Punk is excellent for this type of film, just as goa/psytrance was in MATRIX.

I think this score is important...I always support when filmmakers try something new in their scoring choices. This is very out of left field to me which makes it exciting. As has been said, something fresh and new and different. We need more creative types pushing the envelope, especially in Hollywood. I loved the Dust Brothers' Fight Club score, I loved Juno Reactor's contributions to The Matrix scores, and whenever a Paul Oakenfold tune shows up in a movie it's always so cinematic. I am interested to see what Daft Punk will do...my favorite song of theirs has always been "Around the World"...I still prefer my traditional composers but I'm always willing to hear something different if it's interesting.

You can mute the SFX on the lower left.

The clips on the website sound pretty cool to me. I liked Daft Punk in the first place so...

I played the Homework lp's gray on my turntable, a great set for mixing endless sessions smile. I can't wait to hear what they've come up with. I wont indulge myself with the samples yet.

I don't know what the fourth track is called. But it's the highlight.

These aren't just short samples like Pixar usually puts on their websites. These are full tracks, several of them seem to be the source material for the music from the first trailer. This is WONDERFUL stuff. As someone else said, a great new voice, and a welcome change from the everyday.

Incidentally, you can pull the music out of the sight! I've already added it to a playlist with the tonal music from last year's comicon presentation.

Thanks Jim Barg.

A Batman Begins, channelled through Vangelis at his soundscape best, crossed with John Powell in epic-Bourne mode.

There

...

Wonder when the soundtrack will go up for pre-order.

Cool. We come from the same place; nice to see another fan of electronica (especially the contemporary kind) around here. Well, 'contemporary'.....most of those guys are old-school by now, but in my aged mind they're contemporary. smile

No problem, guys. I was teasing/mocking a friend of mine last week about her reaction when the Harry Potter trailer hit last week, and then I do the same thing when this pops up online yesterday. We all have our geek loves, I guess.

Can't remember where I saw it (so take it with a giant grain of salt) but the CD would be out in November, and there would be a tour to follow (this is the more likely bit).
