This film is a guilty pleasure of mine that continues to have massive entertainment appeal time and again. I especially love the bit when it goes all Japanese revenge film (also one of the reasons why I adore FIRST BLOOD).

As I said earlier in the thread, way back in 2004, the score is pure pastiche and not terribly original, but it's solid orchestral craftmanship, which McNeely excels at. I wonder how I would have felt about it today.

Thanks to this thread, I just discovered this wonderful score - the first track on the album had me hooked. That said, I'm not familiar with the film, and just downloaded the tracks from McNeely's website. Aside from the end credits (if I can't figure that one out, then I need help), could anyone tell me where these tracks go in relation to the cues from the CD?

Thanks!

"He should definitely be scoring big budget summer movies." -- Truer words were never spoken.
Unfortunately, in these musically illiterate times, not bloody likely.

WILD AMERICA is another fine McNeely effort.

Listening to "The Bad Soldiers"...incredible it's not on the CD.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "The Bad Soldiers" the same cue as "Soldier Ships Arrive"? I'm not hearing a difference...

I'll always hold a special place in my heart both for this movie and its score. The former for being the first movie I ever saw with a girlfriend in tow (oh man, the memories! smile), and the latter because it stuck in my mind long enough to buy the movie when it came out on VHS (though I wasn't yet into scores in the least bit).

The existing score CD is shamefully short and incomplete - who here likes this score, and/or wishes for an expanded release? Given the *very* limited scope of interest in the film, is there even a chance a better version will ever come?

I love this score and agree. You can hear a little bit more here.

Thank you very much William, that link is AWESOME!

Does anyone happen to know where I might be able to obtain this on CD for less than $25? Amazon UK seems to be the best I can do, and 29 minutes is a bit short in the tooth for me to justify that amount of money...

William, again, thanks! Those tunes are scratching me right where I itch!

I love that score. It's a great listen. I'd love to get a complete presentation since I know the film fairly well, but I doubt that'll ever happen. I'd be happy if it was 'just' expanded. Let's get the music from the opening of the film and some of the quieter material. The first two tracks on McNeely's page would certainly help. I also love the unconventional distribution of the brass throughout the orchestra. I don't know where that idea came from, but it works flawlessly.

Sign me up for an expanded edition of that score... love it as well, and I've often listened to it prior to a tennis match to pump me up smile

I purchased the flick on Blu-Ray and just finished watching it. Ah, what a score!!! I'm not sure if I'm associating them with this movie because it's sci-fi at heart, but I hear hints of both Goldsmith's Alien and Frizzell's Alien Resurrection in Joel McNeely's music. Am I wrong?

Anyone know if a complete Solider score will ever come???

Would love me some more McNeely material.

My only wish beyond the wide access to the previously unavailable Varese Sarabande Archive is the trust and patience of release in due time AND the availability of personal funds to aquire when the wishes come true. :-)
