Considering the vast majority voted "yes"... Like any Internet community, it probably pays to get a feel for the forum before jumping in. An easier transition, or at least a good way of knowing whether a place is right for you. There are plenty of stodgier film score places on the Internet - here, Filmtracks, etc etc. I read/like many of them, but post differently because the place/vibe is different. I've been at JWFan since The Phantom Menace. People come in with every new movie/release. Some people popped up around The Force Awakens. Another just mentioned that he popped in around LLL's Jurassic Park release last fall. Heck, I think one person even loved The BFG for some reason. They stuck around and are regular posters and it's pretty good. At any rate, films1, I'd strongly recommend against using your very first post in any community, film score-related or not, to namecall some other poster. I think you're misreading hostility in a lot of the jokey posts there, but any actual hostility that was posted probably stems from that.

I was a member there for a number of years. I grew to dislike it very much. I simply stopped logging in and have never come back to post. I look in now and then to see if there's anything of interest to read, but often I leave with nothing. I don't think I've ever used the FilmTracks forum. I post, wen I have something to offer, at the JerryGoldsmithOnline.com forum. I'm a regular every day at maintitles.net I used to post at the MovieMusicUK, but for what ever reason, people stopped using the site and content dwindled and now it's just page after page after fucking page after even more fucking pages of PR for some release from a PR lady who qualifies as a spammer at this point. It was a decent place. Jon considered shutting it down, but the forum is still there. I would hope people took the site back up and left it as an alternative, honestly.

Although the 'tone' here is rather different, the hostility level (when things get "dirty") is far worse than on JWFAN. I would say that every forum has its ups and downs and members who may be impolite, or very aggressive etc. There is no perfect forum. It's just that the internet is perfect for everyone to develop such attitudes, even if he/she isn't like that in real life. I learned that a bit late so now I try not to take anything personally. In my early days of writing in forums, I frequently felt I was insulted.

I'm a regular every day at maintitles.net Maintitles.net should be the model for all film music messageboards! So brilliant in every conceivable way (except that the activity is disappointingly low compared to places like FSM and JWFAN). I've recommended it many times here, but I think very few from here have actually given it a chance. That could of course be both a good and bad thing. Well, there's some room for improvement, but really, MainTitles just carried over it's members and ideas from it's predecessor, the now defunct ScoreReviews.com (that means it no longer exists, so don't go there -- you'll probably get a virus).

I remember your posts well, brother!
