Bruce, I'm sorry to hear that the confluence of 'opt-outers' like me (except for the Herrmann's), and the postal charges have hit you hard. I would only have contributed if the opt-in was available anyway as my tastes are fairly specific. One of my main reasons for signing up was to enable the preservation of 'lost' pre-60's scores that wouldn't otherwise come to light. This is a very important aspect of the marvellous work that you've done over the years - I was happy to see today that your Victor Young vol. 2 was back again in the top 10, a fabulous treat in store for those who are into full-fat, high calorie scoring!

I still would love to see a Volume 3, eventhough Bruce cringes at the idea. Even Bruce mentioned in one of his posts how Leonard Maltin was so very pleased with Victor Young Volume 2.

Victor Young Volume 3? Sign me up!

I see at SAE Victor Young Volume 2 is now listed at #4 is sales! A sign of things to come?

Where's Jack was originally released on Paramount Records, but it was a term license and the soundtrack rights have reverted to Paramount Pictures.

However, any tracks on the album that were uniquely recorded for the LP still belong to Universal Music (successor in interest to Paramount Records).

Sebastian was like this and it was a hassle to sort out.

Does anybody know this soundtrack well? Post here if you can ID which tracks are OST vs. re-recording on the LP, thanks!

Lukas

According to the IMDB the Where's Jack? copyright is owned by Oakhurst Productions (Stanley Baker's company) and it was made in association with Paramount Pictures, but who really knows what the true situation is nowadays?

As for the film itself, WHERE'S JACK was originally copyrighted in 1969 by Oakhurst Productions. But upon renewal of the copyright in 1997, the sole claimant of the copyright became Paramount Pictures.

Perhaps Niall from Ireland has forgotten, but in a 2013 post he reported that "According to Irish folk singer Danny Doyle the score and song [for WHERE'S JACK] was first recorded in Hollywood at the Paramount Recording Studios with The Los Angeles Philharmonic but Elmer wasn't happy with the sound so then they went to Rome and lastly London!"

And back in a 2010 posting, James MacMillan said:

"The film recording and the album recording of WHERE's JACK are two different entities... the scoring sessions for the film were done in London and, in addition to Mary Hopkin and Danny Doyle as vocalists, the South African musician Roger Whittaker was employed to lend his talent as a "whistling" specialist. (If you watch the film you can hear his whistled version of the theme two or three times - though none of this, it seems, was considered for the record album) -

"The album was recorded in Rome, so the entire music budget for the thing must have cost Paramount (or Oakhurst Productions) a fortune!"

Thanks for the update and insight. I have to admit I used the opt-out about 5 times, but I have been really happy with releases I got. I would not have joined the campaign without that, so I would not participate in any future one if there was no opt-out. I just can't see getting CDs I'm not going to listen to. For me, I didn't want the Herrmanns because I had the box set (Hangover Square being the exception because...significant extra music) and I don't enjoy most musicals and or comedy and animation scores. That accounted for all my opt-outs.

I'm pretty stunned that someone out there opted out of everything. That's kind of crazy given the variety of scores you released.

One suggestion if it's not too much work. Maybe you can notify folks when they have gotten their last Indiegogo CD. I realize you are sending notes to people about TWO FOR THE ROAD if they have run out their contribution, but it might save work to just put a note in the box "This is your last free CD. You need to order if you want our next release".
I think I know where I am with my status, but it's easy to lose track.

I think the plan now is to e-mail folks when their final CD is shipped to them. We're now set up to do that easily. We carefully went through the spreadsheet the other day and cleaned everything up.

I thought this was a great program. My opted CD's ran out months ago. But I'd opt in again, should there be another offer.

Maybe the FSM subscription model is the best to go by. But the option to opt out is very appealing, as I didn't always want everything that was offered. That's the challenge with buying something in advance, sight unseen; has kind of a "grab-bag" effect.

The forthcoming projects sound most interesting!

I really appreciated being able to participate in the campaign. I wish I could have been able to opt for the package that offered more cd's. Anyway, it was a great opportunity to get music without the inconvenience of ordering each time.
I also love the coffee mug that came with it, and I use it several times a week.
Thanks for the great releases. And I'd be interested in any similar program in the future.

Get out there and do it the old fashioned way.

"Hello Madam, I'm selling soundtrack subscriptions door-to-door to work my way thru college. Now how many can I put you down for?"

I too used the opt out several times for various reasons. I thought it might be a hassle but I appreciate your perseverance.

My thought as to the future: how about doing it like season tickets to theater? Whereby, perhaps you could list the projects in process and allow us to order a preset number--as season tickets do. Buy the whole roster, a total price that's discounted. Buy lesser numbers and lower discounts down to single prices that are undiscounted.

We'd check off titles and figure out how much we wanted to spend ahead of time.

My two cents worth, anyway.

Can anyone explain about FSM subscription model? I missed it.

I've been keeping track of my CDs and by my count I have 3 more releases that have yet to be announced and I'm done. I am glad to have the opt-out as an option but I think overall I went for things (Charlie Brown, Green Hell, Rocket to the Moon) that I might have not purchased without the campaign. I would gladly re-up the same amount if it helped future releases and just included the CDs, not any of the other side perks.

Like Ray Worley, I'm a bit confused about how many of the Indiegogo titles I have left to receive. It's several yet, but I'm not quite sure since it's been more than 1 1/2 years since this started.

I wonder if Bruce could tell us what was the FIRST Indiegogo title released, and then we could go onto his Kritzerland site and figure out which, among the chronologically-listed titles, we've already received.

I have received every one of the soundtrack releases issued since the campaign began. I have not opted out of any that Bruce said would be automatically included, and I have not opted in on any that he said we would need to opt in on. So here are all 15 of the soundtrack releases so far:

1 - Hangover Square / 5 Fingers
2 - Victor Young at Paramount Volume II
3 - The Pick-Up Artist / Rapture
4 - The Snows of Kilimanjaro
5 - Sun Valley Serenade / Orchestra Wives
6 - The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea
7 - Jane Eyre
8 - The Panic In Needle Park
9 - The Red Balloon / Le Voyage en Ballon
10 - Paris When It Sizzles
11 - The Gang’s All Here
12 - Monster from Green Hell
13 - Two for the Road
14 - A Boy Named Charlie Brown
15 - Rocket To the Moon

You forgot white witch doctor. That was the first one. I probably should have passed on "The Man Who Fell out of Love With the Sea" but that's one of the benefits of the subscription.

I don't think that's accurate. White Witch Doctor would have had pre-orders that begun before the campaign closed, since it shipped in advance of its July ship date (campaign closed on 6/29).

Hmm you're right. I somehow had it on my list as an Indiegogo title but I had also forgotten to list down Paris When it Sizzles. So my count of titles received turned out to be accurate anyway.
