I haven't yet made my list -- I'll be doing my annual Top 10 episode in a few weeks.

There, that should keep your Spotify searches going for a while....
Unless Giacchino surprises me with Rouge One, my pick for best original score of 2016 goes to... The Jungle Book. Would this be eligible for the Oscars considering it borrows themes from the animated film? I'm a bit conflicted because Doctor Strange is my other favorite score of the year, and it's not derivative of another composers work.
Jungle Book has gotten the most play from me this year as far as 2016 scores go. Then Dr Strange and Eddie The Eagle .
I saw The Jungle Book - didn't like the film or the score - just more of the same old same old.
However, I spoke a little too soon as I'm in the midst of getting all these DGA screeners - last night I watched Lion, a film I would have enjoyed much more had it been thirty minutes shorter, and had it actually had a film score that functioned as something other than droning - in fact, for me, the score basically killed the emotional impact of the ending. Think what the Discovering Boo scene from To Kill a Mockingbird would be like today with this awful droning rather than an Elmer Bernstein who truly understood what music could do to make that scene transcendent.
Tonight I watched Nocturnal Adults, an interesting film I enjoyed. And lo and behold a film score that actually at least attempted to function as such - I even bought the CD immediately - Abel Korzeniowski, whose work I know I heard in A Single Man but have no memory of. Some very nice writing here.

------------------------------------------- The Jungle Book!!!
I've played The Jungle Book consistently since it's release in 2016. I haven't done that with any other new release. Usually I'll play a new score for a few weeks and then I tire of it.
I don't get the appeal of 'fan favourites' like THE JUNGLE BOOK or GODS OF EGYPT. Both films are horrible, and the scores are (for the most part) an onslaught of directionless bombast.

Thanks very much Thor - great list. There's a few I haven't heard yet but happy to see TRIALS OF THE BLOOD DRAGON (Power Glove) on your list, it's quite a gem. I didn't know about MORIBITO: GUARDIANS OF THE SPIRITS either so I'm really curious to hear that one - I do have the anime score, but this one it seems is for a television drama?

That's an extremely inaccurate description of of The Jungle Book! LOL

Yep. And I'm not saying that Jungle Book is the best score of the year, just one I've enjoyed more than most.
The Doctor Strange end credits track has been played every day pretty much.
I don't care if anyone else says "oh these are horrible" because, ya know, no one asked what anyone else thinks of their choices
But to be honest, I've played Intrada's Jaws more than anything else this year.
