Demetrius and the Gladiators.

Well, let me tell you how happy it would make me if it was Demetrius. VERY happy indeed!

Fine score, but I haven't played my FSM one for a long time. Aside from the sound improvements, what are the other changes you hinted at?

Many cues on the previous release were in very bad shape and not included in the score presentation but as bonus tracks. Everything is now included in the score presentation, we still have a few bonus tracks, and there's more music - in fact, it's almost complete now - there are three missing cues that could not be saved, but Mike used the stereo film tracks and salvaged what he could from them so we have some of it. It's kind of a major upgrade and a great score, which makes some wonderful use of the Newman themes from The Robe.

Well, that certainly sounds like a worthy upgrade. When will we be able to order?

I have DATG from FSM. You become brain-trained to how a score sounds and can filter out any anomalies if the blip is short enough. It'll be interesting to see how the 'shake & bake' treatment impacts the coherence of the score.

Just knew that after the sonic improvements in The Egyptian, The Robe and especially David and Bathseba that 'someone' would tackle Demetrius. Can't wait!

Just got through listening to The Buccaneer. It sounds absolutely fantastic for it's age! I love all the extras you included, Bruce. It's a great release for a great score. Thanks to everyone who worked on it and made it the best it could be.

Yes, I gave "The Buccaneer" my first listen this morning, and it's terrific! I don't know why, but I'd never really warmed up to this score before. I liked it just fine, but I played it, said to myself "Good ol' solid Elmer Bernstein," but rarely returned to it. In fact, it wasn't even in my iTunes.

Maybe the much more present sound on this new version makes all the difference. I don't know. But it's a great listen.

So dammit, you'll have my money for "Demetrius" too!

I too just finished listening to THE BUCCANEER. Great job. The sound is wonderful. And, it's ESPECIALLY wonderful to NOT have those bagpipes within the score presentation. A really wonderful listening experience.

I have a quick question... exactly what is the Finale on track 21. It's not the one heard in the film. Do you know why that one bar is missing just before the big coda? It's not missing in the film. I also noticed the last chord is not held as long as the LP version on track 22. Is it just some alernate version of the Finale? Just curious if you've got any info on that. Inquiring minds want to know.

Looking foward to DEMETRIUS.

I'll buy a new and improved DEMETRIUS, one of my early favorite scores!

Hmmmmm....

Do you think you could do the same with PRINCE OF FOXES? As I recall, there are still a few moments that could use restoration, such as that sequence with the singer in the distance...

A new & improved Demetrius looks good Bruce, especially for those who missed it before.
Being in the same league as The Robe, The Egyptian etc., I would think it would sell very well.

I love FRANZ WAXMAN. Just a sensational composer, I would buy any CD with his music.

I couldn't quite analyze it, but I felt that the original FSM was lacking something. Perhaps it was my remembrance of the 4-track sound in the original film in 1954 that the CD didn't quite achieve. The original release is now 12 years old, and technology and the ability to enhance the older elements has much improved, so I'm really looking forward to this new version.

A new DEMETRIUS should be great....and Bruce might be able to make The Gladiators look even hunkier this time, too!

Then I'll be waiting for the sequels, DEMETRIUS AND THE BABYSITTER, score by Waxman based on themes by Robert Ragland, and DEMETRIUS AND THE HELL'S ANGELS, score by Waxman based on themes by Mike Curb and Les Baxter. smile

Excellent score with incredible sound from that period.

Wondering, did Bernstein write the "source" cues?

The Demetrius elements were in bad shape and I remember being frustrated by them when we did the FSM disc. Glad to hear a better version is coming.

I just played The Buccaneer, I'm very happy with it. I only had the mono LP so for me it's like hearing the score for the first time. Outstanding production Bruce! smile

Quick answer from Chris Malone:

The film version was of the "Finale" was 13CCA take 1. The album version combined 13CC takes 9 and 6. The album version has a few extra bars right near the end, the final note (after the cymbal crash) is held longer, and the tempo is a bit faster.
