If you're gonna make your risky personal movie, you gotta make your cash-loving mainstream blockbuster!

Spielberg only made JP so he could get his obligatory mainstream blockbuster out of the way and make Schindler's List (the 'personal' movie he actually gave a hoot about) and it kind of shows. Never have heard this one before. All the documentation on JP reveals a man with a great passion and enthusiasm for the story he's telling (a magical, awe-inspiring, family-centered throwback to all the Ray Harryhausen movies of his childhood)...and it shows! I've heard your theory applied to The Lost World: Jurassic Park as well—people saying Spielberg grudgingly made the sequel so the studio would let him make Amistad too. But wasn't Spielberg the one who convinced Michael Crichton to write the sequel in the first place? Why bother if he wasn't already interested in shooting the sequel himself?

Besides, Spielberg had more than his share of blockbuster films under his belt. He didn't need JP to convince anyone to let him make a movie of his choice. Jaws, Raiders and ET would be enough clout for a lifetime of "personal projects."

Anywho, listened to The Predator and I'll happily be in the minority: I like this as an overall listening experience more than Silvestri's original. While there's no denying the creativity and originality of his first score, there is a lot of creeping around and shock cues that make it a slog at times on album. I have the score chopped down on my Silvestri playlist. The theme is legendary, but it's very repetitious. Jackman's score is really great as presented here. Not a single cue grates or bristles with any atonal qualities. It's just a fun score and, frankly, I like Jackman's own cues better than those where he interpolates Silvestri. This is my favorite of his work so far, and he is a composer who is seriously hit or miss with me. Aside from the theme, First Class was dull. Winter Solider was annoying, Civil War was dry with moments of fun, Kong was a Horn of Doom thrill ride, and this is just great from start to finish. Again, I am a huge Silvestri fan, but his earlier film work had a tendency to be sharp, grating or repetitive (the first Back to the Future was a pleasant exception). His work was best when showcased on a shorter album. And maybe this is the case here. I have no idea what the rest of The Predator score sounds like, I am avoiding the film. But this was a fun and fast 55 minutes. Not at all what I expected from Henry Jackman.

Wasn’t JP made after Schindler’s List? No, remember - that’s why Lucas handled post for JP, because Spielberg was shooting Schindler’s List.

Wasn’t JP made after Schindler’s List? No, remember - that’s why Lucas handled post for JP, because Spielberg was shooting Schindler’s List. Crazy. Didn’t know that. Yes, Spielberg was mortified to find the raptors had all been dubbed with silly Jamaican accents, but fortunately there was enough time for him to steer the ship right again.

Someone knows why the physical CD release has suddenly disappeared from everywhere??!! I do not know about the CD however I was very interested in this score after enjoying Jackman's excellent Jumanji effort. It is a decent sounding and listening album, but I feel I personally will pass on the CD after listening to the score which sounds like a "Ken Thornism" of Silvestri's Predator by Jackman. It came off as a rehash of all of Silvestri's main ideas. I wonder if they gave Silvestri a credit in the movie.

Someone knows why the physical CD release has suddenly disappeared from everywhere??!! I have yet to see the physical cd release available anywhere, and I have been checking Amazon, SAE, and other sellers. Is there confirmation that a physical release is coming? The only references I can find when I search is the digital EP and full length digital album.

Guess we'll find out next Friday, when the European Sony pressing is due to show up in HMV and such. Then again, maybe the DOA film made them change their minds.

This is pretty much what I wanted from the score, very heAvy on the Silvestri. It's a fun listen and goes by really quickly. I enjoy it. Not as good as Debney's Predators, which I thought he added a few really nice moments of his own. But this'll get repeat spins from me.

Any idea where I can listen to the Debney and pick it up for a good price? I'm pretty sure it's on Spotify, but I imagine you can probably pick it up for a decent price on Amazon or eBay Not in digital stores, the only way to get the score is through physical (Amazon, eBay...)
