DID THEY MENTION THE MUSIC?

THE ASSESSMENT - Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch

"Another element that effectively pulls the audience in is the chilling score crafted by Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch (previously responsible for the music of 'All of Us Strangers' and 'Living'). Through dark sounds with roaring 'ums' and 'ahs', she is able to keep viewers entranced in the wild and very agonizing experience that the main couple has while undergoing the assessment. The more twisted things get, the more the audience gets distressed by the thrill that the score brings to the scenes taking place."

Isabella Soares, Collider

"But removing that dystopian future could deprive Fortuné of such a convincing showcase for her as a clearly gifted visual stylist and the license for some knockout production design from Jan Houllevigue and a bold score from Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, both of which organically suggest how a world increasingly devoid of humanity has made it all the more important for those alive to leave an impression with handmade touches throughout. However, the ingenious premise of the script penned by Mrs. & Mr. Thomas (a.k.a. Nell Garfath Cox and Dave Thomas) and John Donnelly renders the extra coat of paint a bit unnecessary when allegory isn’t needed to relate to Aaryan and his partner Mia (Elizabeth Olsen), as they subject themselves to an interview conducted by a representative from the state to determine their suitability for parenthood. When Virginia (Alicia Vikander) shows up at the door of their seaside abode, Mia feels obligated to ask what she’s looking for in an adoption applicant; that answer is shrouded in a bit more mystery than you’d expect, even from a tight-lipped professional."

Stephen Saito, Variety

EEPHUS - Carson Lund, Erik Lund

"As exemplified by boxing guy, there’s a light atmosphere of absurdity to 'Eephus.' Bolstered by a cast that varies in acting ability, the film never feels like indie realism. It has a light, playful tone, where actors sometimes deliver dialogue awkwardly, or say and do things that plainly don’t make sense; like when none other than Wayne Diamond cruises into the field honking his car like a maniac to sweep Ed (Richards, in a delightful 'Uncut Gems' reunion between the two) from the game to his niece’s christening. It all works to create a world that just feels a little bit off. Nate Fisher’s performance of Merritt is the only one that’s outwardly deadpan, and he comes across as if he somehow knows things far beyond his years. There are also occasional lingering shots of the area surrounding the field that can be best described as unnerving, accompanied by a foreboding, drum-heavy score composed by Carson and Erik Lund. It’s as if the camera is trying to tell us something inherent and dark about the world that isn’t presented on the surface."

Brianna Zigler, Paste Magazine

LAST BREATH - Paul Leonard-Morgan

"The movie benefits from highly effective performances, not only by the three leads but also Cliff Curtis as the ship’s captain forced to make touch choices and Mark Bonner as the dive supervisor anxious to get his men back safely. And whenever the tension threatens to lag, the swelling musical score by Paul Leonard-Morgan steps in to ensure that it doesn’t."

Frank Scheck, The Hollywood Reporter

MISERICORDIA - Marc Verdaguer

"'Misericordia''s action is intermittently scored to a low, droning rumble that portends disaster. Yet before calamity strikes, Jérémie calls on Walter for a drink and, after hiding from Vincent -- whom they both know would be unhappy about their get-together -- dons Walter’s clothes and tries to come onto him."

Nick Schager, The Daily Beast
