La-La Land has announced two new releases ready to order this week - the third volume of the label's new series STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES - THE 1701 COLLECTION, this edition featuring Fred Steiner's scores for the episodes "Who Mourns for Adonais?," "Mirror, Mirror," 'By Any Other Name," "The Omega Glory," "Spock's Brain" and "Elaan of Troyius"; and a "Suites and Themes" edition of Lorne Balfe's score for this summer's MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING PART ONE, featuring over an hour of musical material that Balfe developed for the film before recording the final score (which was itself released by La-La Land earlier this year on a two-disc set).
The label is currently planning to release at least five titles on November 24th, aka "Black Friday."
The latest releases from Music Box are an expanded version of Philippe Sarde's gorgeous, Oscar-nominated score for Roman Polanski's TESS; a remastered edition of Ennio Morricone's score for LE CASSE (The Burglars); two Claude Bolling scores for two TV miniseries from the late 1980s - LE CLAN and RENSEIGNEMENTS GENERAUX; and the scores for the gangster dramas LE GRAND PARDON (Serge Franklin) and LE GRAND PARDON II (Romano Musumarra).

DID THEY MENTION THE MUSIC?
AT THE GATES - Julia Newman
"All too focused on offering in Marianne a portrait of a conflicted woman intent on doing the right thing and thus complicating that latter trope, the film forgets to give Ana an equally complex role to play in her own story (despite the gripping grace Benavente brings to the role). With a languid pace that eventually undercuts the intended tension, 'At the Gates' has its heart in the right place in wanting to give a voice to the plight of undocumented domestic workers. But the film, handsomely lensed by DP Alan Torres and featuring an oft-distracting score by Julia Newman, continually finds one too many subplots and ancillary scenes that detract from its would-be gripping, timely setup."
Manuel Betancourt, Variety
DEADSTREAM - Joseph Winter
"'Deadstream' avoids the hand-held aesthetic monotony of many found-footage horrors by mixing in faux archival footage and other elements, all nimbly shot by DP Jared Cook. There are also eventual practical-effects monsters (designed by Troy Larson), and a retro-synth score ostensibly composed by Shawn (in reality by Winter himself) that the self-conscious hero plays on a tape deck to heighten his own soon-to-be-regretted dramatics. The pace is certainly lively, and the setting unsettling enough as dressed by production designer Amy Leah Nelson Smith and art director Meg Cabell."
Dennis Harvey, Variety
DOS ESTACIONES - Carmina Escobar
"In the very few times that non-diegetic music is heard throughout the picture, composer Carmina Escobar creates a strikingly eerie mood akin to the György Ligeti selections in Kubrick’s '2001: A Space Odyssey,' particularly the whispering vocalists who accompany María’s discreet visit to the factory of her American rivals."
Matt Fagerholm, RogerEbert.com
"The thoughtful, unhurried rhythms of the editing by Lívia Serpa and the director are essential to the movie’s hypnotic dramatic language, as is Carmina Escobar’s ethereal score, which taps into the beauty at hand and also María’s rising rage over her predicament."
Sheri Linden, The Hollywood Reporter
