DID THEY MENTION THE MUSIC?

VIOLENT NIGHT - Dominic Lewis

"The gore gets bigger laughs than the dialogue; any time 'Violent Night' tries to speak its outrageousness aloud, it seems awfully pleased with itself, like perfect fodder for the '"Die Hard" is actually a Christmas movie!' crowd. On the other hand, this is a better approximation of the 'Die Hard' sensibility than the last couple of 'Die Hard' sequels -- and in the movie’s sole act of genuine cleverness, it forges a connection between gory exploitation movies and the bloodless, kid-pleasing violence of the 'Home Alone' movies. The most inspired sequence finds little Trudy setting Kevin McAllister-style traps with a transfusion of actual blood, as the score does a twinkly imitation of John Williams."

Jesse Hassenger, Paste Magazine

"David Harbour gives off of a ping of likability, and that makes him the right actor to play a down-in-the-dumps, vengeance-is-mine Santa who is really, beneath his bloody mottled gray curls, the Christmas mensch we want him to be. John Leguizamo, as always, refuses to phone anything in; as Scrooge the sociopath who hates Christmas, he makes every obscenity pop. Beverly D’Angelo, Edi Patterson, and Cam Gigandet play the rest of the Lightstone clan as walking high-camp horrors, and Alexis Louder, as Jason’s estranged wife, lends a lone note of stubborn sanity to the proceedings. 'Violent Night,' with its action-thriller soundtrack built around themes from classic Christmas songs, is a movie that makes you think: What’s next, 'Massacre on 34th St.'?"

Owen Gleiberman, Variety

Quiller rocks!

Yeah, the books are fantastic, and as the series progresses I'm amazed how increasingly action-packed they are, very cinematic.
