The latest release from Intrada is a newly remastered re-release of Harry Manfredini's score for the 1989 underwater sci-fi thriller DEEPSTAR SIX, which beat Leviathan and The Abyss to theaters in that strange year where underwater sci-fi was briefly all the rage.

Quartet has announced two new soundtrack CDs - the first release of the score for SPACE TRUCKERS, the 1996 sci-fi comedy directed by Stuart Gordon, with a score by Colin Towns (Robert A. Heinlein's The Puppet Masters, The Haunting of Julia, Rawhead Rex), and Pascal Gaigne's score for the 2020 fantasy drama ILARGI GUZTIAK

DID THEY MENTION THE MUSIC?

THE HUMAN FACTOR - Eugene Levitas

"Errol Morris’ 2003 masterpiece, 'The Fog of War,' served as a crucial inspiration for Moreh, and 'The Human Factor' only further affirms how he is a major talent in the mold of his hero. Eugene Levitas’ score is as entrancing as the circular melodies of Philip Glass, while the director is not above interjecting his own off-camera questions on occasion, such as when pressing the subjects on their own apparent biases. He also embraces instances of quirky humor when they emerge organically from the subject matter, such as when Arafat is caught watching 'The Golden Girls.' Like 'The Gatekeepers,' Moreh’s latest enthralling feature plays like an urgent thriller rather than a dry history lesson, in part because the issues it raises remain shamefully unresolved."

Matt Fagerholm, RogerEbert.com

"As with his 2012 Israeli security exposé 'The Gatekeepers,' Moreh relies on just six men -- his magic number for assembling a taut and troubling history lesson -- pairing their recollections with ample footage and a frantic score. Here, the minimalist approach creates focus on a fleeting moment when peace actually seemed viable — until, of course, it didn’t. That would be the Clinton years, when America’s 42nd president enlisted a team of talented intelligence and foreign policy experts for a series of sit-downs with the two nations’ leadership, culminating in the 2000 Camp David summit that ended in bitter failure."

Eric Kohn, IndieWire

"The documentary’s style is classic talking-heads, interspersed with period color and black-and-white photos, frequently manipulated for a 3D effect. Music is maddeningly overused, pushing every twist and turn. Is a gently tinkling, melancholic piano really the accompaniment to use over the death of the bloody dictator Hafez al-Assad?"

Jay Weissberg, Variety

MAINSTREAM - Devonte Hynes

"Complicated slightly by the casting of Hawke -- who despite playing an ingenue holds the screen with a movie star’s ease, and has never so evocatively resembled her famous mother, Uma Thurman -- the film’s quieter compositions possess an old-Hollywood glamor that’s both nostalgic and eerie, befitting Coppola’s decision to split the settings of her finale between a cemetery and a stage. On the score, British composer Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange) laces his romantic arrangements with similarly palpable menace."

Isaac Feldberg, RogerEbert.com

"Despite the eye-jangling visual aftereffects (Snapchat flower-crown filters, retro-hip 8-bit onscreen graphics and Frankie vomiting up emojis that tinkle into a bathroom sink like a Vegas jackpot), despite the contempo stylings of Devonté Hynes’ pleasantly downbeat eletropop score, even despite the handful of real-life online celebs like Mexican vlogger Juanpa Zurita and Instagram guru Casey Frey who appear, 'Mainstream' feels heavily indebted to Elia Kazan’s 1957 TV-fame-cautionary tale 'A Face in the Crowd,' right down to the souring relationship between Link and his regretful, shunted-aside svengali, Frankie. But this retro-resonance brings its own issues: It’s hard to make out if Coppola’s point is how very different -- and worse — the era of influencer monetization, unboxing videos and makeup tutorials is from any kind of celebrity that has happened before, or how much it is the same. It becomes instead an attempt to plug 21st-century observations into a 1950s circuit board. Perhaps it’s no wonder the fuses blow."

Jessica Kiang, Variety

"Editor Glen Scantlebury does an inventive job carving a frantic pace out of thousands of disparate pieces of film and animation. Devonte Hines’ score is deeply embedded in the imaginative, rather childish visuals."

Deborah Young, The Hollywood Reporter
