Deathmoon
2.5/10
1978 TV movie about Robert Foxworthy and his bouts of lycanthropy on a tropical islznd. Theres no mystery and it feels more like they had a resort and shot a film around the location. Some interesting music in it, that's very 70s TV and a bit off kilter, like a Columbo score.

HUSTLERS (2019) - 7/10

Based on true events, this film tells the story of a group of erotic dancers who, when the 2008 market crash drastically reduces the number of Wall Street hotshots who frequent their Manhattan club, decide to change tactics. Rather than just rely on their charms, they surreptitiously use drugs to make their clients compliant, before maxing out their credit cards.

But the film is really a story of the friendship of two of the women, both single mothers. The novice to the game is Constance Wu, to whom the experienced hand, Jennifer Lopez, takes a liking, showing her the tricks of the trade, so to speak. They both deliver in their parts--two women with responsibilities, doing whatever it takes to survive and thrive for themselves and their children.

Surreptitiously use drugs to make someone compliant? Bill Cosby went to jail for doing that.

Some of these ladies saw some jail time. Mostly probation though. Chalk it up to the justice system punishing men and women differently. And that Cosby's victims were sexually assaulted, while these ladies' victims were just robbed.

the TV movie had the advantage of telling the past story and the present story all in one shot.

Yes. Nailed it. I don't think you can really appreciate the story otherwise. In fact, that was one of the major draws of the novel for me.

IT: Chapter II

"SPOOKY CLOWNS!! BOOOO! SEE THE SPOOKY CLOWN MAKE LOUD NOISE AND BE SCARED AHHHHH!"

5/10

Rocketman

Screenplay skims over the rocker's life while emphasizing the woe is me side of things. Egerton's mannered performance and the overall self-pitying trajectory left me rather unsatisfied in the end.

6/10

Bohemian Rhapsody

Ottman's edit really does energize what could have otherwise been a long slog. Malek's performance is also quite commendable. Very entertaining bio (regardless of whether it's 100% accurate or not).

8/10

I'm pretty sure those Wallstreet hotshots would've appreciated being "sexually assaulted". Ya know a good number on them are probably into BDSM. They drained their bank accounts and no kink. Talk about insult to injury.

The movie's the same way. They take your money and you get no nudity from J Lo or Constance Wu, just a little from the unknowns in the cast.

Just as well, judging from the pics.

Name a movie about strippers, porn stars or exotic dancers that DOESN'T do this. The most well-known female members of the cast will never drop trou and show everything. Hell, they won't even show their breasts for a few seconds.

"Ladies", "punishing men and women differently", and "just robbed."

Hilarious.
