Great, lean dialogue in Dozen throughout.
You just dont get the effort in scripts anymore. Not like that.

That scene is one of many, many great scenes in that "fillum." I loved that Meeker-Bronson exchange when I first saw it as a kid, and I love it still. I've wanted to post it here for years.

Speaking of Ralph Meeker, it was amusing to see him opposite fellow former Mike Hammer Darren McGavin in their scene in the first Kolchak TV movie.

Noel Holcroft (Michael Caine): "....I dont drive. I live in New York. There's no point. The traffic's terrible. You cant park....I have a friend who lives in the country, and it's supposed to be an hour from 42nd Street. A lie! The only thing that's an hour from 42nd Street is 43rd Street!...."

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (Disney)

Captain Nemo is arguing that people in civilisation 'topside' place an absurd value on the cheapest of commodities. Which is to say golden dubloons and stuff that glitters, in general.

Capt. Nemo: We use such baubles for ballast.

Ned Land: BALLAST? I sure could lighten this ship.

From How To Murder Your Wife (1965)

Stanley Ford: "Every single charge that the district attorney has leveled against me is true. Indeed, I did slip her a Mickey - brrrup-brrrap! I cold-bloodedly then fed her into a tomb of goop from the gloppitta-gloppitta machine! I ask you to acquit me! Acquit me on the grounds of justifiable homicide! And not for my sake... for yours!"

Cleopatra

The very British Rex Harrison is teaching young Caesarian to give those he is pardoning a hard look to make it clear they are not really getting off lightly.

Caesarian the younger really does have an exceptionally thick Italian accent.

Caesarian: EYE PAAR-DOH YUU!

Edit: Spielberg pulled this card with a variation in the game during Schindler's List. It's when Schindler is planting the idea of magnanimity in the head of Amon Goeth, to try to spare a life or two. One of these must be funnier than the other.

In memory of Pamela Tiffin, I've always enjoyed this banter she had with Paul Newman in HARPER.

Miranda Sampson: Don't you ever feel the need to relax? Let's relax some, Harper.
Lew Harper: For what? So the beauty in the next room is gonna get all hot and bothered? Lady, if you can't get him hot and bothered by yourself, I sure ain't gonna do it for you.
Miranda Sampson: Don't you think I'm attractive?
Lew Harper: You're young, rich, and beautiful, and my wife is divorcing me. What do you think I think?
