I've been away for a few days & it was nice to come home & see a small box had arrived containing, The Amorous Adventures Of Moll Flanders & A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Forum has definitely passed the test of time. I bought the (mono) LP second hand from West London's Shepherds Bush Market way back in 1967, & it became a firm favorite. The stereo Rykodisc CD came as a revelation, & still sounds good, but I think Quartet has improved on it, the sound has more oomph, more bottom, it sounds great, & the extra tracks are fun. The booklet is fantastic, really thick & chock full of great pictures (& a good read), easily up the FSM standards. Just need a great looking Blu-ray now.

I finally caught up with this fine Santa Clause The Movie release. Yes, I am a little late on Christmas music this year. In any case, this is such an excellently produced package, the notes are really excellent, the artwork is beautiful and the mastering job is surprisingly clear and warm for something this old. This release is a great example of something that digital releases can never replace. Excellent work Quartet Records. It is Christmas in January for me. Yes, its a great release! FYI, I'm still spinning Polar Express in my car. Thank you for saying this Solium, I have been playing Polar Express too, such an excellent score. Oh, I had never been familiar with much Mancini, but Santa is a really lovely melodic, rich score, and probably the most Christmas dense score, with Polar Express. I was feeling a bit like an oddball for playing Christmas music in January.

This way I have time to appreciate it all. (Can't stand ppl that turn off their Christmas lights the day after either!) Mancini writes really lovely themes. His music is usually very upbeat and happy sounding. He was perfect for this kind of project.
