That's really no different from the CD that's been available for a while, no? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000807J/ref=dm_dp_cdp?ie=UTF8&qid=1352495931&s=music&sr=1-1 The Vocalion reinstates some tracks from the original two vinyl LP's that were omitted from the CD above. As I recall, a couple of disco tracks from the Close Encounters album (which were originals written by Nick Ingman, rather than being adaptations of any film cues). Also 'When Worlds Collide' from the Star Wars album. I think the varied nature of the Geoff Love albums means that some you like and some....you don't. They are catchy light pop/orchestral arrangements in most cases which don't necessarily correspond very closely with the originals. But they sold very well amongst the general listening public. In the case of a disco album like Close Encounters, the appeal for buying this today is that people have fond memories of the original album, which - cheesy though it undoubtedly was - contains at least two recognisable themes that hadn't been heard much outside their tv shows. One was the 'Logan's Run' tv theme and another was 'The Omega Man'. You can also bet that Mike Dutton will have improved the sound and that there will be far superior album notes than anything produced before for these albums. The disco sound was much in vogue at the time and I suppose the decision was taken to exploit the trend with Close Encounters. At the end of the day, Geoff Love used some of the cream of the crop of British session musicians and arrangers around in those days and that's another reason to get this album.

I'm thrilled this is finally being released. I got these two albums for Christmas back in 1978 or so and played the crap out of them. I'm also thrilled that both albums appear to be complete finally. However, I'm also a little confused about this. Unless I'm mistaken, both albums combined amount to somewhere around 90 minutes, around 10 minutes too long for a single-disc release. I hope this is a double album. If not I fear they may have edited some of the tracks down to fit the whole thing on a single disc. Does anyone have any info on this? I really hope it's not edited. I loved all the arrangements on both discs, even the much-maligned (though certainly not be me) disco record. I wrote to Dutton Vocalion a few months back saying I'd happily pay extra for a double disc, but I see the price for this release is still 9.99.

I don't know for sure but I'd put money on it being a double album; editing down tracks from the originals isn't something Vocalion goes in for as a rule.

It just arrived today (I live in the US so it took a week or so longer to deliver), and I can happily say this is a fantastic set! The two discs sound wonderful. I have only skimmed through today, and will give it a proper listen tomorrow. This is the set I've been hoping for since DV started their Love reissues early last year. They have now issued every Love vinyl I used to own. I will happily continue purchasing these sets though as long as they keep releasing them. I have never heard the series of Big Western Movie Themes albums Love recorded in the 70s.

It's good to have the two albums on CD in their entirety for the first time, and sounding so nice as well. Excellent album notes too, which confirm what many suspected about some of these albums - that Geoff Love didn't always have much involvement in them, other than conducting. Just as long as Vocalion keep away from Geoff's Banjo Party albums.....
