I really like Yared's The English Patient and City of Angels. So I watched Betty Blue for the Yared score. Well that was a mistake because the movie was lousy (not to mention really long) and the score was nothing like Patient or Angels.

That is not to say it is a bad score, just not my type of score. It has alot of electronica, some wierd choral stuff, and ends with circus music.

Has anyone heard this?

Sure, i agree it's not really my cup of tea, but it's a good score with good music from one of the best composers around these days MR Yared.

I don't much like Betty Blue, but my favorite score by Yared for one of Beineix's films is probably La lune dans le caniveau, and my favorite Yared score overall might just be the absolutely gorgeous Camille Claudel.

BETTY BLUE is actually one of Yared's more popular scores, granted with the general public rather than most film music fans.

I haven't seen the new, longer cut of the film but as I recall the score worked really well in the film and if you see the documentary on Yared that is on DVD, he talks about the score and performs some of it in concert.

I watched Camille Claudel right after Betty Blue (as I was doing a Yared marathon). Camille indeed had a better score. It is interesting how both films are about a man in love with a woman losing her grasp on sanity. Both end sadly.

I disagree. I love BETTY BLUE, the movie and score. But then, I'm into these
slightly odd French drama films. The character portrayed by Beatrice Dalle
was really wacked out of her gord, so to speak, and that made the film
unpredictable, imo. I didn't know what to expect or what trouble she was
going to get that guy into next. It was actually kind of funny. The ending
was strange and sad. And it helped that she was also a hottie. big grin

Indeed, the actress did a phenomenal job portraying Betty and her madness. I just felt the movie was too thin to support such a length.

I love this very melancholic and bittersweet track for sax and harmonica. It was used for a Norwegian TV program many years ago but I didn't know until today that it was from BETTY BLUE. Reminds me of a long lost past. Thanks to Shazam again!

More music from BETTY BLUE at the beginning of the episode, the track Cargo Voyage.

Well, I have seen the episode several times since the mid 90s, so I have refreshed my memory a couple of times.

Yes, I regularly watch it too (like I do all Tufte/Eia). I'll pay better attention to the music next time.

I miss Yareds early, synth based scores.
They had a nice balance between acoustic and electronic which reached its zenith in MAP OF THE HUMAN HEART.

His purely symphonic scores are not as interezting ( kinda like John Barry's career) although COLD MOUNTAIN , , and RIPLEY at. al are excellent.
