As for Lovato and Gomez, I feel that Disney was conspiring against Lovato in a way for not being Gomez. Gomez was basically treated as their next big thing and they protected her from criticism (I also believe this will be the downfall of her career, seeing how badly Monte Carlo fared at the box office). With Lovato, they forced all these things onto her to become a cookie-cutter product (like Gomez or Miley Cyrus) and when they broke her, they threw her under the bus. In the end though, I think Lovato will win out. Post Disney, she seems to be doing fine with a decently-performing album (that was something she never could have done when she was a Disney product) and being on The X Factor. Meanwhile, Gomez is basically stuck in the Miley Cyrus route (she even replaced Cyrus on Hotel Transylvania) and likely will be for years to come. That makes no sense and there is no evidence for that. Why would they torpedo one of their own starlets and in doing so a very successful series? Think of the money it cost to develop a series? Hire all the actors, bring on a writing team? Production crew, etc. So they bite themselves in the ass just because she's not Selena enough? So what do they do with a show with no lead star? What about the actors and writers on contract? No Lovato took herself down and the show with her. Fact is Disney had to develop a spin-off series just to keep the production going. (Now canceled) One last thing. Lovato is on contract with Hollywood Records. Owned by Disney. If they wanted to dump Lovato they would dumped her label deal. How did Disney protect Selena from criticism? What did she do that needed protection? No racy cell phone pics, no public drunkenness, no drug addictions, never rude to the media. Selena is simply a more mature person. Regarding Selena's career. While her music may not be bring in the numbers of a Whitney Houston, they are still amazingly successful albums. She has millions of fans world wide. Went on a world tour. Selena has become a huge marketing machine. She has a clothing line, a perfume line, soon to follow a nail polish line, and that's on top of her music and film career. (Though I do agree her film choices have not brought in the numbers.) The only connections Selena has with Disney now is the music deal also on Hollywood records. Selena is hardly tanking like Miley or most other post Disney starlets.
