The following quote was posted on Facebook April 21st, 2012 from a very reliable source (regarding Danny Elfman's MIDNIGHT RUN score):
"Though I don't think that there was initially much left off of the original 1988 soundtrack, we'll eventually be getting an expanded score album, with an instrumental version of the End Credits( which is the song "Try To Believe" performed by Oingo Boingo under the alias “Mosley and the B-Men”.) As they say, stay tuned! smile"

April 28, 2012 UPDATE: The Facebook author of the above quote, Illustrating the Score, must have seen this thread and has now added the following statement to his original FB posting:
"Just to be upfront, considering an "Expanded Release," that I mentioned above, I DO NOT have any real inside info that ordinary folks don't already have. When I said that this was "eventually" going to happen, I was speculating. Yes, I do have good resources in the film music communities, but I don't not pretend to be anyone's spokesperson. Thank you. smile"

I changed the thread title to reflect this new comment. Bummer.

That's excellent news. A truly fun and bouncy score.

In order to make this less of a Watergate type thing - what/who is the "reliable source"?

Hopefully by instrumental they mean an ACTUAL instrumental rather than a pointless karaoke version.

Well, I assume they mean the 'actual' instrumental that ended the film. That wasn't on the original MCA CD; they included the vocal version instead - which wasn't in the film. I liked the vocal version but always regretted that they didn't include the instrumental ending too.

It seemed to me however that most of the music from the film was on the CD so it will be interesting to see how much of an expansion any new CD might be.

Man this score rocked when I saw the movie way back when. Had the cassette but love an expanded cd. This score is so different then every other Elfman outing and happens to be my favorite. Can't help but feel good listening to it.

I only know the selections that are presented on Elfman's Music For A Darkened Theater, Vol. 1, but just based on that suite I would certainly be interested in an expanded release. Some of the most un-Elfman Elfman music I've heard, but I really dig it.

Since the instrumental in the film's end credits is just the song stripped of the vocals, I always assumed that Elfman wrote the song for the film and the vocals were wiped in the mix.

I love this score, but there is very little music in the movie at least that isn't on the CD. But that CD is very pricey these days, so a reissue is a good idea.

Great score (very unique in Elfman's oeuvre, although with links to his Boingo work). The existing album is fine, though. In fact, I can't think of any music that was left off, but then it's been a few years since I saw the film.

I'll agree the album is perfect as is and is my favorite Elfman score. The song on the original album is just a fabulous R&B gospel rave, never tire of it

Ah, I won't be buying this new one then.

Sweet! Always wanted that orchestral version of the end credits. The vocals are brutal...

I love this score, but it hardly needs an expansion.

I agree that this is one that isn't really burning for an expansion or a complete presentation or anything, but I'm always in favor of rare CDs being available and affordable again.

Anybody who really cares already has this, but a nice addition would be Elfman's 1990 version of "Try to Believe" from the Oingo Boingo album, Dark at the End of the Tunnel. I much prefer this version to the crazy gospel version that plays in Midnight Run, and it might make people think better of the song.
