Always loved this Theme and show when I watched it first run back in the day.

John Rubinstein also acted on the show for awhile as Meredith Baxter's husband.

Here's an alternate Theme for the show also by Rubinstein, more upbeat. I liked the first one best, but they are both very good.

Here's the closing theme and wow, Pete Rugolo scored the episode:

A lot of excellent production talent worked on this show throughout it's run:

Mike Nichols

Jay Presson Allen

Mark Rydell

Edward Zwick

and the late James Broderick (Matthew's father) played the dad so well.

I actually liked all the actors on the show and thought they were all very natural,

accept Sada Thompson,

who in my opinion, kind of over-acted her part. She seemed to push it just a little too much. It just didn't seem as natural as the others to me when I watched it in my late teens. I'd love to see it again and maybe my opinion might change a tad.

Please share your thoughts on the show and John Rubinstein's Themes.

As Family is one of the few Spelling-Goldberg series never shown in Britain (to my knowledge), I can't comment. But I did hear the themes and I do like them. smile

Agreed....I always enjoyed this show quite a bit...everyone was excellent but Sada Thompson was a bit too melodramatic...too soapy for a show that tried to avoid becoming one.
