For me it is really difficult to pick a favorite score of all the fantastic works by Newman. But if I would have to, it sure would be The Flintstones. What a joyful and melodic score with so many memorable themes. It is so creatively orchestrated with so many inventive orchestral ideas and colors. One of the best Hollywood scores of the 90s.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Intrada, Varese or LaLaLand !!!!

In case of a future release, I would welcome the inclusion of the trailer music, conducted by John williams during one of the Jurassic Park scoring sessions.

Agreed! Was this released by MCA Records? So either Intrada and/or LLL would do us the honors please wink

Yes, it was - but that album was all songs, aside from one score track tacked on the very end ("Mesozoic Music"). The license would need to be granted from Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment to release the score - a second license would be needed from MCA (now UMG, no longer tied to Universal Pictures) to re-release the score cue presented on the existing album, though I doubt anyone would want to go through that trouble just for one track.

Not to mention, MV Gerhard of LLL has said comedy scores don't sell (except if it's Goldsmith, Williams, or Horner). Considering how past David Newman score albums have sold, I'd be surprised if this was limited to anything higher than 1000 or 1200 units.

I have the promo which I got from David Newman, but apart from the wonderful opening fanfare and theme redux that Newman does, I find the rest of the score too insane and annoying to enjoy on it's own.
I have the same problem with his Cat In The Hat score. Great opening track, but I lose interest after that.
There are plenty of other Newman scores I'd place above this one in my wanted listed (Paradise, Mighty Ducks, Firebirds, Crazy On The Outside).

I'm with you, Kev. PARADISE and THE MIGHTY DUCKS are on my wish list too, well above this one. I'd also love, love, love a release of OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY at some point. Maybe if the 99% Movement keeps going, someone will think to put it out?

I second three of Kev's suggestions (haven't seen or heard Crazy On The Outside).

Mental note to Newman, never give this lad another copy of one of my scores.

I definetely agree on Cat in the Head. I have a hard time listening to the complete thing. IMO there is too much "wildness" that doesn`t lead to anything. But Flintstones is a completely different affair. There are numerous memorable themes and it has so many intersting orchestral colors and ideas. Think about the "sexy" theme for Halle Berry or the entertaining "noodeling around" theme (as Newman put it). And like I said the inventive orchestration is simply mind boggling. IMO ist is very entertaining and not nearly as "insane" as Nutty Professor 2 or the Scooby Doo scores (which I like as well btw).
But sure Paradise, Mighty Ducks, Firebirds and Crazy On The Outside would be most welcome too. Especially Crazy On The Outside which is my favorite recent Newman score.

Not to get off the subject but what about 1992's Hoffa? Perhaps a nice dramatic score? The original sdtk I think is a little over 40 minutes. There's a lot more of the score + Newman's original trailer music. I don't know I have to rent the movie.

I didn't mean to torpedo your love of the score with my comments counterpoint, it's just one of his manic scores that has never really grabbed me as much as others by him.
Of course, if it got a 'proper' release, I'd no doubt buy it, as I do all D Newman releases.

On the subject of Hoffa, I think the CD is fine as it is. All the major pieces that I remember from the film are there and the trailer music is a 'not the norm' bonus.
Not sure I'm clamouring for an expanded release of this, while things like Anastasia, Operation Dumbo Drop, Animals United and Sandlot would be more deserving for me.

I saw the movie last night on a late cable re-run... and was just wondering why any of our beloved labels has not stuck his teeth on this great and amazing David Newman score yet... Any chances for a CD release?

What's taking so long for this score to be finally released??

Isn't it considered worthy by our beloved labels?!

You've been around these boards long enough to know that's kind of a silly question. There are a myriad of reasons for a score to not be released that has nothing to do with lack of interest.

Although 'comedy David Newman' might lead to a certain lack of interest amongst soundtrack buyers, if past sales are to be considered.
I always feel we would have already had a SCOOBY DOO 1 & 2 score release from La La Land if they thought they could shift more than 100 copies!
