I'm sure they don't always sell all that well and are overlooked by many, but I'm so glad to have the opportunity to get these obscure little scores and expand beyond my usual film music horizons a bit on occasion. I'm well acquainted with The Space Children and it's likely a must have for die hard 50s sci-fi fans (Charles Thaxton to name just one!) who love the electronic sounds and ambience of that period. I've seen The Colossus of New York some time ago and don't remember the score off hand, but the samples are fascinating with the ensemble used. I was very interested in it and shrugged my shoulders about ever hearing it, or even seeing the film. The Space Children score is a real find---the movie's very obscure, but the score is like a summary of '50s sci-fi sounds, wrapped up with a big Novachord bow. They drove me to drink. lk Didn't anyone ever tell you not to drink and drive? By the way, if FSM had never released anything other than 7 Faces of Dr. Lao they would still earn my unending praise. Sad to hear about FSM closing up shop, especially since most of the other soundtrack specialty labels have not shown much interest in scores from the Golden Age. Thanks for the ride of a lifetime with your impeccable releases - and for being the one who actually started that great new wave of ever coming holy grails we're all riding on... 15 years ago! The only Van Cleave I'd really paid attention to previously was his Twilight Zone "Perchance to Dream" score (which you'll hear a hint of in Space Children), but Space Children, as Joe says, is a quintessential example of the fifties sci-fi sound, and Colossus of New York is indeed chilling--and a really cool, ahead-of-its time little movie with an awesome Jack Kirby-style monster.    Posted:   Sep 12, 2011 - 3:24 PM     By:   Creepshow2   (Member) These are the wonderful releases I will miss when FSM goes away. With La La Land thinking about stopping their Golden Age releases before they really even started it's just not a good thing. I know Intrada, MMM and especially Kritzerland keep the Golden Age scores alive, but FSM was like the king. These two, especially Space Children, are a couple of my guilty pleasure/holy grails that I NEVER thought would see the light of a CD laser. Just delightful. Dig that super-ethereal electric violin - one of the best uses of it in the movies short of Billy Goldenberg's Columbo stuff. Fab!
