I was playing the album last night, and it's a rare case of a recent album,
especially for a horror score, that I didn't cut off after 5 or so cues.
I actually played the whole thing, and you know what? It's really good! One
of the best things Beltrami has done! Nice to hear some strong melody in a
horror score, and no overdoes on clangy stingers. I thought I read that Daniel
Schweiger put together a killer temp on this, and I can hear echoes of cool
scores like The Mephisto Waltz, Alien, The Fury, but not copies, just very faint
echoes and direction.
Worth a listen!!!!!

Totally agree. I was just listening to this yesterday and thinking that no-one had really mentioned it here yet. Really nice score and I'm not really a huge Marco fan. All credit of course to Mr Sanders as well. Great use of the lullaby theme and some beautifully creepy moments. Also nice to hear a horror score that doesn't fall apart during the action moments.
Is this getting a cd release or is it download only?

The score actually reminded me more of Christopher Young than of Goldsmith (though, to be fair, Goldsmith was clearly a big influence on Young, especially in Young's early scores), and it was much more melodic than I expected -- considering that none of the reviews I scanned for "Did They Mention the Music" even mentioned the score, I was surprised how tuneful and foreground the score was.
I also enjoyed the film a lot -- it's nice to see a horror film shot by a great, underrated DP like Oliver Stapleton (The Cider House Rules, The Grifters) -- and I thought the film's tragic element was very effective.
On the other hand, am I the only one hugely disappointed to learn that Shark Night 3D is PG-13? I was hoping for something that would like Piranha 3D look like Up.
